Help from a dentist?

Would any kind dentists on here be willing to have a look at a photo of DD‘s teeth? We think she has two teeth growing in one gap but our dentist is saying one is a baby tooth. We know she lost a tooth there and feel these must both be new.

We are wondering whether we should try another place to check it’s OK to leave or not. I would have thought he might check her notes to see what she last had there, but it sounds like he just looked at the photo.

Thanks if you are willing to help.

She’s also having pain in the upper gum for a few weeks but he will say it’s just teeth growing etc. She has SEN so I believe her when she bothers to tell me its hurting so many times. I will try to post the photo here and if we can’t get seen i think I will try to call round private ones.

At first glance the further forward tooth looks like a baby tooth abs the further back one certainly an adult tooth. Would need an examination and possibly an x ray to check the further forward one is an extra adult tooth (supernumary tooth)
In either case at her age it’s not an urgent problem to be sorted given current Covid restrictions. The surrounding gum does have some redness and swelling which is likely to be causing some discomfort. This will be due to the crowding making the area difficult to keep clean. Just concentrate efforts on keeping this area well brushed and don’t be alarmed if there’s some initial bleeding on brushing due to the inflammation which should subside as the oral hygiene in this area improves.
Once your dentist is operating a normal service and routine checks are resumed, make an appointment to get the area checked (assuming the further forward tooth hasn’t fallen out, if indeed it is a baby tooth) Smile

Thank you very much. I do believe it’s an extra adult tooth given she had a gap. Learnt a new word!

In terms of her ongoing pain with side teeth on the top row, I keep reassuring her it’s because things are growing and moving around but not sure how long to do that before I ask someone to check? It’s hard to feel I am ignoring her when it’s already difficult for her to express pain.

Its a bit hard to say without examining her but it looks like a baby canine at the front

Then the tooth at the back is a partially erupted adult tooth, then theres a little tooth at the front next to the incisors. It could be a baby or it could be an adult tooth coming through. It doesnt really look like a baby tooth to me

Its possible either shes got an extra tooth which can happen
Or shes got an adult incisor and canine erupting and the baby canine is still retained

If it is an extra tooth its nothing particular to be worried about as powerfulpalm said. I wouldnt go doing anything with it anyway at this stage. Id probably need an xray to determine for sure whats going on

ChoccyJules · 09/11/2020 18:46

Thank you, that’s reassuring.

The little tooth at the front is new, that’s the one he is telling me is a baby tooth but we disagree.

Anyway, good to know we can leave things alone for now. Today she hasn’t mentioned toothache on the upper level so am hoping it settles.
