FFS worms - Help

ScrumptiousBears · 03/11/2020 00:17

I've googled to death and now I'm running around in circles. DD4 has worms. Found out tonight will be trying a pharmacy before school tomorrow.

I've read loads and don't know what's true and what's not so please any advice welcome.

How often do I do this thorough cleaning? I gets I have to wash towels bedding, hoover, dust, clean surfaces etc but is this every day for 6 weeks?

Also do I tell the school?

I only did one major wash of bedding and towels at the outset. Then back to weekly. It wasn't a drama at all. The medication works so quickly you don't need to be doing it all the time

Thanks for your reply. I know I shouldn't have googled but at this time of night you have nothing else to do. Some people were saying everyday. I was thinking surely that's just not possible.

I do have an issue that my DD sucks her thumb and the advice is to stop that. But in reality that's not an easy thing to do.

Same as above plus v hot wash undies and bedtime cuddly toys. tablets for the whole family then again I think 7 or 14 days later to catch any hatched as meds don’t kill eggs. Always have a pack in the house and on holiday as DCs start itching at night miles away from Chemist. Rigorous with hand hygiene reminders & scrubbing nails when muddy. Keep nails short- covid Habits have helped here as it’s been a while since DCs had a session.

Re thumb sucking, I have a sponge dip thing from Superdrug for nail biting and it gets dipped before
School every morning. It’s relentless. I should but don’t put on again at night as it does give them comfort

Make sure she's washing hands after the loo properly.

The big risk is scratching her itchy bum in the night whilst she's sleepy.

Things like putting her in a onesie or pj's with a tie at the waist can help with that - reduced access. Sleep mittens if you think she would tolerate them.

The medicine does work fast though but I'd personally was bedding and night clothes (plus any bedtime cuddly toys) daily before medication and a few days after.

Thank you everyone.

Looks like I'm going to be busy over the next dews day then. At least I'm working from home so have easier access to do all this washing.

For the thumb sucking I'd recommend a Thumbsie (they have a Facebook and website). Helped us break the habit of thumb sucking

ScrumptiousBears · 03/11/2020 20:09

Thanks for the thumb sucking tips.

Managed to gets meds for this and we all took it before school. Unfortunately she's still really itchy. Just got out the shower, have tried Vaseline and sudocrem and nothing works for her poor girl.

I used to get worms a lot when younger due to biting my nails...the tablet always worked for us xxx

Feel your pain op. Ds age 4 had them for the first time the last week of august. He was crying saying his bum was sore so I tried to put metanium on and notice wiggling 🥴
I got the tablets from the pharmacy the next morning for all of us, then put all of our bedding, pyjamas and towels on a boil wash.
Made him wear pants every night for a few weeks and we all took another tablet dose 2 weeks later.
No other excess washing and so far no reappearance!
