Hi , my 14 year old has a referral to a dental hospital as her milk teeth are very slow to fall out , one of her eye teeth is completely going in the wrong direction under the gum which means the milk one hasn’t fallen out the orthodontic is concerned it could damage roots . The tooth is between the front tooth and the tooth next to it
Has anyone had a problem like this ? The orthodontic said they may have to extract the troublesome tooth which means a big gap or a surgeon can open it up and put a brace on to encourage to grow in the right direction . I am worried

My dd had this and got the baby tooth removed. The referral to the dental hospital to do something with the adult tooth took so long that it actually came through the gap from the baby tooth all by itself. She did get braces to sort the twisting caused by the adult tooth growing the wrong way under the gum

Thankyou , the eye tooth under the gum is so off course that the orthodontic feels removing the baby tooth now won’t make a difference , I’m hoping that something can be done and the adult tooth doesn’t need extracting

I wouldn't touch that baby tooth at all until they for sure can get the adult tooth to come down otherwise she will be left with a gap. I'm a dental nurse and seen many older patients who their dentist back in the day was happy to pull a baby tooth without checking there was actually one to replace it underneath.

Dd's option was remove the baby tooth and then the dental hospital would uncover the adult tooth and attach a chain to it to pull it into the space. The tooth underneath was causing another adult tooth to twist as it was growing into its roots. Once the baby tooth was removed the adult tooth altered course and came in through the gap. The referral was taking months and months so she didn't need surgery after all

This is dd with the tooth removed. The adult tooth in the gum has caused the tooth beside it to twist.
It was the orthodontist that instructed the dentist to remove the tooth

Thanks for the pic that’s how my dd will be the orthodontic said to leave the other eye tooth alone until we’ve got a second opinion
