My husband started having symptoms so he got tested and it came back positive. Hes been really unwell with it so has been quarantined away from us. I thought it best to get me, my 13 year old DS and my 6 month old DD tested too. My DS has come back negative but my DD and myself positive! I'm not feeling too bad so far but my DD is so clingy, moany (which isn't like her at all) and off her food. Shes got terrible diarrhea and her nappies aren't too wet. We called 111 and they were no help at all. Im after any ideas that could get some drink into her. I dont want to end up in hospital with her. With me and my husband being positive im not sure they would allow us to go in with her :( im distraught! Does anyone else have/had a young one diagnosed?

Better to mix a bit of sugar into the water , rather than giving squash with artificial sweetener. She needs calories at the moment.

@sarahloubert
How are you doing?

I know you’re anxious to get liquid into her , but based on my experience when I had gastro problems I’d try a few sips, wait 10 minutes and then a few more. Gradually build up as I found my stomach was to sensitive to take a lot of liquid at once.

My eldest used to suffer a lot as baby with sickness and diarrhoea. Dioraylite little bit at time given with syringe. Or with my son he would suck on a wet flannel as hated syringes and when ill always refused cup or bottle. Just give her what ever she will take yoghurts and all. Anything, that will help keep her strength off as long as it is something no matter how small it will help.

How is she doing now?

Hi all sorry for delay in reply. Ended up in ED with her yesterday as GP wouldn't do anything or see her and only said if I'm worried take her up. Which was a mission in itself as were both covid positive. Luckily I work at our local hospital so I rang ahead and informed them and I was quickly through into a sideroom out of the way. Last thing I want to do is infect loads of vulnerable people! She had blood tests which came back elevated at first. So they had to be repeated and they wanted to keep an eye on her because she hadn't had a wet nappy for a good while. She eventually had some sugar water (given by the docs) and started to pick up. Bloods came back again some were normal but the ones that weren't were typical of covid symptoms so they expected that. I felt a bit like I'd overreacted but he said covid can cause severe problems in babies by damaging the kidneys and liver so I deffo did the right thing. He said he's rather him be able to send me home than me have left it and then him having to tell me my baby was seriously ill. Shes woke up this morning and has had a real poo! I've never felt so happy to see solid poo lol! And shes polished off an 8oz bottle and some porridge. Gosh these little ones like to worry us. As someone said lower down the doc said covid is scary but try to think of it as what it essentially is
... a viral infection. Ive got a leaflet with signs to watch out for so I feel much better. X

Thank you for updating. I'm relieved to see she seems to be on the mend.

So am I. A day of cuddles and playing is on the cards for us today. X
