Bowel issues with 2 year old

Hi, I have had some ongoing issues with my DS who's 2. He has struggled with constipation for nearly a year and has been prescribed laxido for the past 5months, however we are yet to get any good results with this as struggling to find a maintenance dose. My concern is whether or not he has any underlying problems, GP doesn't seem to concerned said it's common and he will grow out of it. But given the current situation and all of his appointments have been via the phone they aren't able to rule out anything physical. To add my son had silent reflux as a.baby and was on gaviscon until he went onto cows milk at 12 months. Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation?
I think I need to push with the GP a bit more to get him seen and potentially a referral.
Any advice would be great :)

How is his diet? How does he eat in a typical day?

My son had similar problems at this age. He was badly constipated and was withholding. After about a year he was prescribed movicol which solved the problem instantly. He has had no further problems since - now aged 10.

Have you tracked diet? My daughter had constipation with overflow and she was diagnosed with fructose intolerance.

Thanks for the replies. He diet is generally good he eats lots of fruit and variation of vegetables, I've not had any issues with him eating or any particular foods groups. His fluid intake is quite high also. The only concern that plays on my mind is because of his problem with reflux whether or not dairy is a problem for him.
@Toomanycats99 when your daughter was diagnosed with the fructose intolerance was this through a test or elimination? My son too has overflow.
I guess I worry that the gaviscon has played some part.
I would really like to resolve the issue on a more long term basis as the laxido like I say works but still causes trouble with figuring out maintenance dose.
I guess a GP visit would be my best to look at other options.

It was through a blood test originally then she had to do a lactose and fructose test where you drink a high sugar drink and then I think it was a breath test to measure how levels are over a period of time.,the blood test was borderline and in the first instance they said no issues. It was only on a follow up it transpired there had been a mild positive. However once diagnosed I was able to match up a couple of times issues had reduced to changes in diet. She is generally only intolerant to high fructose/ processed fruit sugars (so fruit squash / fizzy drinks / flavoured water some sweets, fruit yoghurt, fruit lollies, dried fruit) but she does also get affected if she eats a large amount of high fructose fresh fruit.

My DS1 had similar issues with constipation and was on movicol daily for a long time. We found that although he is not allergic to dairy too much does make the constipation worse.

We switched all drinks of milk and milk on cereals etc to oat milk. He still had yogurt, cheese etc in his diet and seemed to tolerate those ok. We never received a formal diagnosis of anything just gave oat milk a go to see if it helped and found that it did.

I was literally coming on to post about my two year old having the same issues. She had reflux and was on ranatidine until about 10-11 months old. She doesn’t seem to have an issue with dairy but definitely reacted to raw egg though she’s now at the top of the egg ladder
.
She is also withholding and we are also on lacido (which is Movicol right?) the GP said to do one sachet a day and it’s sort of working but we are still only getting small productions and they STINK so I’m not unconvinced she doesn’t have a blockage of some sort and like you they haven’t seen her it’s all been over the phone.

I’m not sure whether we should up the dose a bit until we get some results which are more... productive and regular and then we can work on coming back down again though from what I’ve read they need to be on for a few months until you begin to wean them off. Am waiting for a call back from the GP so I’ll see what they say.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read and reply.
Having spoke to the GP they seem to think unless it's an allergy there isn't any helpful testing and to keep on changing the dose of Laxido until we reach an ideal. My son however has got really bad wind and showing signs of stomach ache whilst on 1.5 sachets, so following some advice I'm going to try a probiotic and switch to pay milk and stop the laxatives entirely. I feel at the moment I have nothing to lose but to try different options as he really can't get much worse.
@KTD27 we initially followed a disimpaction regime at the advice of the GP you increase by 2 sachets until you reach watery brown stools this should eliminate any blockage. More info on this is on a really helpful website called Eric.
Unfortunately whilst that definitely got things moving down there after gradually reducing his dose it was back to either being too lose or not going frequently enough. I've even tried half sachets in case it's just a small amount that is making a difference but no luck. Feel free to message me directly if you want to discuss.
I will update if I make any progress. Again thanks everyone for your advice is has definitely given me more of an idea on what options I might have. Just hoping to get this sorted for my poor boy. He keeps telling me he doesn't want a nappy but with this going on its impossible to potty train.
