22 month old putting hands over ears

He's only been doing this a few days but for loud noises he's started putting his hands over his ears. Eg when I've been hoovering, or if the TV is loud. Even when the TV isn't loud, but an intro song comes on he did it today, and when he saw his auntie he went straight to put his hands over his ears. It's mostly on the left ear more than the right,is it worth a gp visit in case it's ear ache? The fact it's just suddenly started makes me think it's more likely to be a physical cause rather than sensory but I'm not sure

My wee one does this. He is 21 months. He doesn't seem distressed and seems to do it randomly. I think he might be experimenting with how putting his hands over his ears changes the way things sound.

Earache is awful - I think your LO would be very unhappy if that were the cause. But if you are concerned a GP visit might put your mind at rest?

Thanks for replying. Yeah he is the same in that he's not the slightest bit distressed when he does it, I also notice he covers his ears then says Hiya
As though to get my attention to show me he's doing it, or maybe his voice sounds different in his head with his ears covered so he's just testing that

My DS started to do this around a similar age he is now 2.2 and tells me things are too loud quite often. He also tells me to turn the hoover off and if a loud car comes past will hold onto my legs.
When he was younger he loved the hoover so think it seems to be phase. Children's sight and hearing is always developing as well as their understanding of what's going on around them. I wouldn't be too worried unless he appears to be in discomfort or is showing signs of not hearing correctly :)
