So my little boy is 1.5 and he has his first cold since last year. Runny nose, sneezing and coughing, eyes are weeping but he also keeps dribbling out lots of clear mucus. He ate an ok breakfast but after his lunch when napping he was violently sick and the same after his dinner, and then again after his bottle.... he's ok in himself and no temperature at the moment. He's struggling to sleep as so congested etc but it's the not being able to keep anything down which is a worry? Just seems to have so much excess mucus and saliva?!

Just wondering if you have any advice?

I think sometimes the mucus can make them sick - I remember being quite surprised that the reason my dd vomited (all down the french windows!) was an ear infection. Does he have a temperature?

Ugh, it’s horrid isn’t it? DS (currently 20 months) was ill last year with cold after cold after cold. He was only sick though when he coughed himself sick. (Huge vomit after lasagne and garlic bread at nursery - a tomately garlicky oily mess Envy)

I would just keep offering fluids esp water, maybe offer little and often bland carbs (ready brek, soft white toast, dare it DS gets a potato waffle if he’s not 100%). Even if he’s outgrown them could you try a fruit pot or pouch ie a baby rice one?

One thing the hospital told me (we ended up in as he was struggling to breathe and got exhausted with a heavy infection and sky high temp) was once he was better to have a week or so of letting him have quote ‘anything he wanted’ ie yogurts, custard, jelly etc to mane ion the calories. DS was under a year at the time tho and dropped from 90th to 50 cents over the months of illness - he now caught back up.

In terms of breathing we have the calpol plug in (smells like an expensive spa) and also the snufflebabe child safe vapor rub. I thought the plug in was a gimmick but it seems to be very soothing.

Also if you are concerned NHs 24 are very very good at advising - I seem to recall they were more concerned about actual nappy output than amounts drank, and I think the threshold for not taking a drink was surprisingly long
