Over the past week or so I’ve noticed DD2 has a bald patch at the crown of her head now a bit bigger than a 50p piece along her parting making it very obvious.

At first she point blank refused to talk about it but I spoke to her 1:1 and asked her if she was pulling it out was she stressed or anxious to which she said no, I spoke to her about alopecia and said we will probably have to go the GP at some point.

DD2 is what you would a Tom boy in that she not a typical teenage girl into her look lake up, fashion etc, she wears men’s tops to hide her figure and getting her to brush her hair is an effort. I don’t want anyone picking on her at school as I know she’s been picked on before for her hair colour and having glasses.

Of course actually getting a GP appt is horrendous right now and I don’t even know if she would actually go if we were to get one.

Hi Op, I’m going through similar with my 11 year old. Had a phone consultation with the doctor and we’re booked in for a blood test in case it’s iron deficiency.

Didn’t know hair loss was a symptom of iron deficiency?? In going to phone the doctors tomorrow see what they say, she’s very embarrassed about it and will hate speaking to a stranger about it but I’ve said she needs to get it checked out.

My hair was falling out at that age due to anaemia, but it wasn't in patches. Rule anaemia out, then you need to look at psychological causes.

Has she had covid as think it can be a side effect

sweetkitty · 30/09/2020 23:16

She’s really not wanting to go to GP but I’ve said she must for a blood test to see if there’s something wrong. Said I would be a neglectful parent if I didn’t take her!

No covid.

Another idea, which may be quite a reach but has she been eating properly? Dietary problems/ eating disorders can cause problems with hair loss. Just another suggestion.

Had a phone all with the GP today she’s to go for blood tests. I sorted her parting this morning so it didn’t look as obvious t hi s morning.

Her diet is terrible, she recently became vegetarian minus the vegetables, think Queen nuggets, chips, crisps, chocolate, chip van at school Sad despite the constant napping from me but she’s almost 15. GP asked about stress she’s in an exam year she’s a very clever girl always seems bit to study bit a care in the world but manages to get 80% anyway so I don’t know if she’s worried that this is her first formal exams.
