Can fever in toddlers be caused by overexcitement?

Hi everyone!

My toddler stays with my parents every fortnight or so, and he seems to get a fever (temperature) when he's there more frequently than you'd expect.

During his temperature, he feels poorly and lethargic and doesn't want to eat, but then seems absolutely fine by the next day. There are no other symptoms.

I'm just wondering... is it possible that overexcitement can cause fever? My parents treat him with heaps of activities, outings, etc. – and he's often too excited to eat, so he refuses lunch and then they fill him up with cupcakes and chocolate later! (I never minded because it's a treat for them too – and he has a healthy diet the rest of the time.)

Is this possible? I'm not sure what else could be the reason!

Thanks for any advice,

Mish

I would say it is more likely the lack of decent fuel combined with lots of activities making him feel lethargic and out of sorts etc, rather than over excitement. Not a medical expert! I would be asking them to give him proper meals and less of the rubbish if you can.

Thank you @FannyIsNotMyAunt! And do you think the activities/lack of decent fuel could actually cause a temperature/fever in him? That's the bit I'm most confused by!

I don't think so. It may be that he is reacting to something-do they have a cat for example, which brings his immune system down, so if he's got something it then can take hold in a way it wouldn't normally.

What are you classing as a fever?
A raise in temp would be normal due to excitement, running arround etc would be normal.
A pyrexia 37.8 up would not be normal.

If, when he's eating healthily at home he doesn't feel poorly, lethargic and has a healthy appetite, I'd put it down to spikes in his blood sugar when at your parents. Can you suggest they show their love for him in a healthier way?
