Slightly raised temp and a bit grumpy - GP?

I can't decide whether I should bother the GP or if this is nothing. My 7 month old had a bit of a crying fit last night (which is not that unusual for her though). She felt very hot to the touch but her temp was 37.5 so not overly high. She eventually settled and I put her to bed, but kept checking her throughout the night. She cooled down by about 2am and stayed sleeping, which again is usual for her.

All morning she was her normal self, apart from leaving a couple of oz of her milk which she usually finishes. She still had approx 5oz x2 though and has been laughing and interacting as usual. No rash, no sensitivity to light. However she's just had another crying fit and has got very hot again - and again, her temp is 37.5. Should I bother the GP?

37.5 is not a fever so I wouldn't bother the GP.

Just keep a close eye on her. Hopefully it's just a cold/virus/teeth

Her temp isn't very high, and she sounds like she was quite happy earlier.

I wouldn't bother with the GP. I'd keep an eye on her temp but it wouldn't worry me at all based on what you've described.

Thanks. She is my PFB and it's good to get a rational perspective before I overreact to these things!

Could she be teething? I don't think it's anything to call the GP for but definitely keep an eye on her.

If she's still showing a temp after a few days with no obvious reason, call the surgery.

Teething?

Lockdownseperation · 18/09/2020 13:10

At that age the NHS says you don’t need to see a GP unless they’ve had a temp for 5 days.

jb2941 · 18/09/2020 15:32

37.5 isn't high. It may have been elevated if she was upset and distressed. My two get hot when crying and upset. So yeah she sounds fine tbh!

Also, could she be teething?

MummaPopsicle · 18/09/2020 19:27

I think she may indeed be teething come to think of it. She responded really well to a teething ring from the fridge earlier. Her temp went up to 38.2 so I gave her some Calpol around 4pm, and she's been much better (and cooler) ever since. Thank you for the reassurance Smile

If she has a temp above 37.8 then she needs a corona virus test and the test of the household needs to isolate.

MummaPopsicle · 18/09/2020 21:43

That's a really good point @Lockdownseperation! Better get on that in the morning...

Just got back from A&E on the advice of 111. Her temp went from 38.3 to 34.6 in 4 hours during the night. The doctor was not worried, thinks it's a virus as her throat is inflamed. It seems the temperature dropped like that because I stripped her off too much and her room is quite cool. Unbelievably neither 111 or anyone at the hospital mentioned covid Shock
We will be isolating just in case, though we've been living like hermits anyway (WFH, shopping delivered and only going out for walks for weeks - DH is very vulnerable). DD is all hot again and had another crying fit. It's really hard seeing her under the weather Sad

Do you work in a hospital or are you a GP because unless they have constant coughing and high fever which is also more likely to be Chest infection then no they don’t recommend Covid test and neither should you.

Sockmonster23 · 09/10/2020 16:27

Sorry my last post was directed at someone saying get a Covid test. I hope your little feels better soon.. when my son was 4 months old he had a fever and quite a high temperature. Took him to doctor and he was very reassuring saying no one likes to see little ones Sick but it’s a virus and there are many. I do hope she feels better soon.

borageforager · 09/10/2020 16:28

DH is a GP, told me yesterday that latest research shows people with sore throats as a symptom don’t test positive for Covid, so can pretty much conclude that a sore throat rules out Covid. Obviously I’m just a person on the internet reporting what their DH says but if the doctor you saw has had the same research across their desk that would be why they didn’t suggest a Covid test.

Just realised this post is from weeks ago Blush
