Vomiting after head injury

Wacadu · 15/09/2020 09:00

My daughter had an accident on Sunday and has a head injury. She was checked out and was OK to come home under supervision. She vomited once on Sunday evening, then once again yesterday and today. It's not continuous but is it normal to still be vomiting a couple of days afterwards? Everything I can find online talks about vomiting immediately after the injury.

She has no other signs of concussion.

No, I would be ringing the GP for advice ASAP.

MotheringShites · 15/09/2020 09:04

Get medical advice ASAP.

8catsisnotunreasonable · 15/09/2020 09:05

Hi, back to hospital ASAP I'm sorry OP. DGS got a swing to the back of his head last night and went to A&E so I have the head injury leaflet in my hand...any vomiting and it says to get them back to A&E immediately. Hope all goes well x

AutumnSuns · 15/09/2020 09:05

She needs to be seen again today by a medical professional

Arcadia · 15/09/2020 09:07

I would take her to A & E - not being hysterical just you'll get seen quicker that way. My daughter got a bang in the head in the playground and I took her to A&E as she just wasn't right. I was glad I did as she was sick once waiting to be seen and again after seeing the nurse. Thankfully not a third time as that is the trigger for a scan etc according to the doctor. She improved and came hone but had mild concussion and was off screens etc for a week or so.
As she has been sick three times I would take her in as a precaution.

TeenMummy · 15/09/2020 18:55

Who was she checked out by? What age is she? And what did she hit her head on or off?

Has she been diagnosed with concussion?

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 15/09/2020 18:59

We were at A&E at the weekend for a child head injury. We were told any more than two vomits, go back.

HavelockVetinari · 15/09/2020 19:01

Sorry OP, you need to get back to A&E - you could ring 111 to ask their advice first but it'll likely be the same.

DS1 when 13 was knocked unconscious. He was checked in A&E but several hours later started vomiting again so I took him back. He had a brain scan. All ok thankfully but was groggy for a few days. The consultant said I did the right thing.
Go back.

Biscuitsneeded · 15/09/2020 19:13

Go back. My late grandfather was a GP who told me a story I can't forget involving a child and a brain injury. Please take your daughter to A&E and insist they check her out again.

imissthesouth · 15/09/2020 21:16

Go to the hospital asap, this is a red flag for a more severe head injury.

Wishingstarr · 15/09/2020 21:18

My husband is a Neurologist and recommends she go to the ER or see a Neurologist asap.

Wacadu · 15/09/2020 22:05

Thanks everybody for your advice. I took her back this morning and we were there most of the day.

Definite concussion and after 2 CT scans, they discovered she has a fractured skull. They're not too worried about it as long as she takes care for the next couple of months. A small air bubble has made its way through the crack and again they're not too concerned. They gave her a meningitis injection in case of infection.

She is 14. She lost control of her bike and hit the ground. She can't remember much about it. She was immobilised and blue-lighted to hospital, where they stitched her head and she was allowed home.

I'm so glad I took her down.

A and e for sure. These symptoms sounded like a bleed on a brain my niece had. Absolutely 'fine' the day after but sickness came on 24/36
Hours later

Smellbellina · 15/09/2020 22:20

Gosh well done OP hope you’re ok too!

AutumnSuns · 15/09/2020 22:28

Well done for taking her back OP and have lots of lovely duvet days

Afibtomyboy · 15/09/2020 22:29

Terrifying

Out of curiosity was she wearing a helmet?

Wacadu · 15/09/2020 22:37

@Afibtomyboy Yes she was. I dread to think of the consequences if she hadn't been.

Oh @wacadu what a frightening time, is she OK tonight for going to bed/sleep. Can imagine very anxiety provoking for you both.

Wacadu · 15/09/2020 22:43

@Smellbellina I'm better now thanks. I knew she wasn't right.

Wacadu · 15/09/2020 22:45

@TitianaTitsling She's sleepy tonight so I'll check on her in a couple of hours. That's what I've done the last couple of nights.

Oh my goodness. I hope she makes a full recovery Flowers

HavelockVetinari · 16/09/2020 19:04

Was she wearing a helmet? If not, please make her wear one in future!
