Undescended testicle in 12 year old

Hi, Was just looking for a bit of advice. My son is 12 years old and he came to me saying saying there was a ball in his scrotum and was this normal. I said yes it's normal. He then told me he doesn't have one in the other one. So he reluctantly let me have a look and it's just an empty sack. Has anyone gone through this with their son? I spoke to the doctor on the phone and he honestly freaked me out talking about an operation, fertility and cancer. We have an appointment a week today. I feel sick with worry and so guilty. He is my only child and as far as I knew boys balls drop when they got puberty.

Get the op to descend it. My boyfriend didn't, his got testicular cancer, which spread as the testicle was inside him and he died at 20.

I don't mean to freak you out. But they aren't designed to stay up inside. So it needs to come down or come out.

Hope your DS gets an op asap and is fine, OP.

Thankyou for you're reply glitter, he will definetly be having the operation. I just feel sick with worry and so guilty I didn't notice.

My son (now 18) had this. It took 2 operations at 12 and 15 to descend the testicle and it's still higher up than the other but been told his fertility is fine, he does have to keep a check on it but not affecting his life at all.

I noticed when he was tiny but GP told me not to worry then didn't know until he was 12 and told me himself. Don't beat yourself up, it will probably be fine.

My son was born with one testicle undescended, the gp took it very seriously and he had an operation when he was around 11 months old which was successful. It turned out it was very high and they brought it down as far as they could , he is a little lopsided down there but looks more or less normal. He had regular check ups for a few years now they say it's ok and he should watch for any changes at puberty , if for any reason it does not develop as it should they are keen to whip it out as it is a cancer risk.

Thankyou Dotty, it's good to hear of someone going through it and being ok. He said he will need an operation to have it removed but never mentioned about it being repositioned. It was just a quick phonecall though until he gets seen properly next week. I feel a bit better after seeing that you're son is leading a healthy life and getting checked more often ❤️

The scarring is minimal and he recovered very quickly .
