Car sickness - 2 year old

Dad of one here and first post on MumsNet.

Our 2.5 year son has suffered with car sickness for a long time. He has been to the doctor who wouldn’t prescribe anything because of his age but suggested Piriton. This hasn't helped and our son is sick on almost every journey over 10 mins. This is very stressful for him but is also difficult to manage when every trip as we need a few changes of clothes.

He is sitting in a forward facing seat and we have tried a couple of different seats in different positions but no change. We try not to give him toys to play with and do not let him watch anything in the car (tablet etc)

Looking for advice on solutions to the sickness but also any tips for a bib or apron he can wear in the car to keep himself clean and to catch anything.

Thanks

My daughter was a terrible traveller until she was about 4 or 5 and then suddenly out grew it.
These were fabulous for her

Travel bands (as mentioned above), open windows, seat them with a good clear view through the window and distract with games like I spy that involve looking out of the windows. Music and songs. Avoid giving toys to fiddle with as these make the child look down rather than out of the window. Light, simple food before travelling, ice cold water to sip in the car.

We used a seaside bucket as a rubbish bin in the back of the car when our DC were little -- easy to grab and catch sick if needed!

From age 3 your DC can take children's travel sickness medicines (chewable tablets), but these are only really good for long journeys as they can cause drowsiness.

We always timed long journeys for evening/night or nap time as sleeping is the best way to avoid sickness.
