Anxiety stomach ache/IBS

DD aged 10 has had stomach everyday the last 8 days coinciding with returning to school and also a temporary house move. My instinct is it's stress related, possibly she has a degree of IBS as it runs in family. Has anyone experienced it?

My husband died of bowel cancer so these symptoms absolutely terrify me, even though my rational brain knows it's likely to be stess especially given she is eating and toileting normally.

Anxiety starting to get the better of me though

Hello @Grobagsforever I'm 25 and I have anxiety and I think a touch of ibs there is a thing called "anxiety poops" if you look it up there's a few pages on it, I get horrible stomach cramps and pains, and the icky feeling were I constantly need to go toilet whenever I'm nervous, the doctors do try to give medication for anxiety, she is a bit young so they might try to offer CBT if your worried I'd defo try and get an appointment, I've had mine for a good 2 years now, this covid 19 has set my anxiety off pretty bad so I'm suffering every day almost,I've found trying to keep busy or try get her to try some yoga maybe you sit and do it to with her too? 🤔She's not alone, lots of people have it xx (I haven't ever taken medication as I was pregnant when my kicked off and the thought of it, doesn't sit right with me, I must admit tho if it gets worse within the next couple weeks I might have to consider it ☹️ ) I hope you get everything sorted

Is the food being eaten a healthy balanced diet or a bunch of crap? Improve if required?

Work out what foods are triggering it. And avoid for a few weeks until this difficult time is over?

Then reintroduce.

Grobagsforever · 09/09/2020 06:31

No @Elieza I'm not feeding my daughter'a bunch of crap' - did you mean to be so rude?

@Grobagsforever defo give the doctor a call and look up trigger foods for ibs, anxiety suffers normally get the ibs side of it to 🙄ive found if I eat at around 6-7 I'm okayish the next day, I hope your daughter feels better soon, and your both keeping safe xx

Elieza · 09/09/2020 21:22

OP no I did not mean to be rude. Apologies.

There are a lot of parents who feed a diet of sugary cereal, pop tarts and mcdonalds for dinner every night, no fruit and veg, sweets and crisps and then wonder why there are various issues.

In the past I have eaten a bunch of crap myself and learned from my mistake.

Clearly that’s not your situation.

Thank you @Elieza. DD is excellent eater for her age, I just made her a Greek salad for lunch, for example.

Honestly I wish it was as simple as diet!

I had an anxiety-related diarrhoea problem when I was about her age. It lasted about 2 years. I used to get it when I was extremely stressed or when I had to travel. Nothing to do with food. Hopefully it will pass soon! Try not to worry... Flowers .

Thanks @Sandrine1982
