Early shaver- tips?

Hi

DS2 went into puberty quite young, and now aged 11 has a noticeable moustache. He doesn't like it ( as he stands out amongst his peers) so we've been using an electric shaver to get it off. However this makes his skin sore? I think his skin is too young and delicate to cope. We've tried some after shave balm which helps a little, and witch hazel gel.

Would wet shaving be better? He's very fair so any redness is very noticeable

I'm at the same point with my teenager and I was thinking electric shaver too. Is your son pressing too hard? Usually electric shavers are very gentle.
With a normal razor I think I might try some of those small disposable bikini razors you can get. Men's razors are quite bulky for a small top lip and cheap razors like Bic are quite brutal. I would also make sure he uses a proper shaving gel.
Could he remove the hair at night so any redness has plenty of time to settle before he has to go out too.

Oh and witch hazel on sore skin is probably not best as it's quite harsh. Something like Salvon or a fragrance free product would be better.
There's definitely a gap in the market for young men just starting out shaving isn't there (unless there's something I don't know about)

Brilliant thanks @keepingbees , I'll get some savlon in. We usually have some but I couldn't find it but found the witch hazel instead! I'll have a look for some bikini razors, his Dad has been shaving him so definitely not pressing too hard, but he ends up with sores which then scab and he gets upset. Fortunately he's at the stage that once a week is probably enough so I think I'll suggest he shaves on a Friday eve so his skin has time to calm down before school on a Monday

Luckily for him my ds hasn't had this problem (started around the same age as your ds).

We got him an electric shaver because I assumed it wouldn't cause redness, but it looks like this can be an issue for some men who use them: www.shavers.co.uk/blog/how-to-prevent-and-deal-with-razor-burn-from-electric-shavers/ - the link has some tips that might work for your ds?

Brilliant thanks @sleepyhead !
