HPV vaccine question.

Can anyone tell me at what point in the school year the HPV vaccine is normally given. There is a possibility that my Year 8 daughter might end up being partly homeschooled and I know the vaccine is normally given via the school. I don't want her too miss it - although I assume the GP would give it if she doesn't get it at school. Thanks.

It's year 8 here. My son is due to get it when he returns to school. The GP will do it too.

Do you know when they normally do it? (Ie what month).
With the covid chaos though I wonder what will happen.

It was before lockdown and after Christmas so February I think?

Round here they do it in year 8 with a booster in year 9. My dd is (was!) in year 9 and had some other vaccinations the week before lockdown and then was contacted by the school nursing team in June for her hpv booster. They had a schedule they would have been working to, to get around all of the schools in the city, so I doubt there's a hard and fast rule about exactly when they have it.

I think I might be best asking the school really.
Thanks folks.

Hmm, I've seen some articles about how the HPV vaccine causes all sorts of problems. I think it's better if you don't do it at all.

It is usually in the Spring, it was January/February round here last year. It may vary according to area.

I work as a vaccination nurse. We're starting them in 2 weeks. We'll try to get both doses done with a single school year.

Our local health authority (South West) does have a vaccination team - I rang them to check that my own DD hadn't missed her second dose and they are planning to do it a year after the first one.

Due to nerves, her vaccination was at a clinic just before the session at her school, and she was one of the few pupils who didn't go to have it done, it was boys as well for the first time and seems a very high takeup rate.

JillDunst thanks for your opinion but my daughter will be having the jab.

I thought about it last night and realised with dozens of schools to do the vaccination team must start at the top of the list and work their way down. So there probably isn't a specific date where all the kids get it at once. D'oh 😂 My brain didn't think of that.
