So my 2 DD (5&4) toes are slightly turned in. It doesn’t cause them any problems and they walk fine. I didn’t notice it until my MIL pointed it out today. I am a bit of a worrier so now I’m freaking goggling and worrying myself. I’ll attach a picture to see if anyone else has a similar thing or has been through a similar thing. Advice would be great, going to call doctor for some advice on Tuesday and hopefully they will see me.
Many thanks.

Do you or your husband have curly toes? I'd say it's nothing to worry about but I'm not a medical expert.

imissthesouth · 29/08/2020 22:36

Unless it's causing problems i'd leave it be. the only real fix would most likely be surgery i'd assume so doctors wouldn't want to do that unless necessary. Maybe see your GP if it's concerning you?

Afraid I don't have advice but reading with interest! Those look just like DD's third, fourth and fifth toes. She was born with curly toes and the little ones bend under her foot so she ends up standing on the toenail part. Was thinking today we need to get that looked at since it doesn't seem ideal on the long run...but not sure where to start. Is there such a thing as a children's podiatrist?

I noticed one of my childrens end toes turn under as if they've been squashed under in too tight shoes but we've been obsessive about checking!

Going to give the doc/health visitor a call on Tuesday and see what they say. It does look like 3,4&5 toes it’s more the third IMO. It’s not causing any harm and she would always say if shoes are too tight and I’d get her a bigger size. Just worried incase I caused it. Her dad has slightly curved toes whilst I have piano toes 😂

Mine are exactly like that my little toe kind of faces the side! DDs are the same.

I see a podiatrist about ingrowning toenails regularly and he has never said anything

That’s interesting @CrystalPuff, I was born with curly toes and when I started to walk I would walk with the toes underneath my feet just as you have described. Turned out the tendon at the back of my toe was too short (or wasn’t growing with me or something) and I needed a simple op to fix it. Might be worth getting it looked at

Ask your health visitor?

By the way I think the feet on my dc look the same. My health visitor said it wasn’t anything to worry about in my dd’s case. Genetic quirk. Which surprised me, not because I was worried, but because the feet looked normal to me, same as mine, my mum’s and sister. I’d not noticed that other people’s weren’t like that...

Another dc was squished inside me, “positional talipes”. Toes, and worse, ankles need encouraging to straighten. Just exercises on the. changing mat. Dc is fine now, no surgery needed and has always run and walked perfectly (now teen).

Chiropodist is your friend
We went through the whole getting referred to a paediatrician who said surgery was an option when DC was older.
And then one day I mentioned it to the health visitor and she recommended going to see the chiropodist at our health centre.
In the end there need for any surgery - we had half a dozen appointments over 18 months and each time she made a soft mold insert thing that sat between DCs toes that were worn inside her shoes.
Gently keeping her toes in a better position and stopping them from crossing over each other.
Sounds daft but it really worked.

I’ll be ringing for sure! I didn’t think anything of DD’s feet either and now I’m just worrying about it because I’m a big worrier anyways. She walks and runs fine. Just call and get her seen and see what a professional says. Thank you !

Mine are like that. So are my dm and dbro and one of my dc.
The only person it's caused an issue in is dbro who was throwing his ankle badly, but that was solved by making sure he had well fitting shoes that supported his ankle.

Don't go for surgery unless you absolutely have to. A friend who had surgery told me her consultant said that "the patients normally stop hating him after 6 months..."
