Botox injections for cerebral palsy

Hi all, new here so be gentle 😂 my son is five years old and has cerebral palsy. His physio therapist has suggested trying Botox injections to help his muscle tone. This is totally new for us. I'm looking to find other mummies and daddies who have been through this with their little ones and share their experiences/opinions if it helped or not. Looking for pros and cons ! Thanks x

I know my sils nephew has had them, along with physio and ot. He is in his late teens, and they seem to give him a lot of help physically.
I hope someone can advise you more, and be gentle!

My (now adult) daughter was offered them and we decided against them as we were told they’d have to be redone regularly and the consultant wasn’t sure how much difference they would make. My friend’s daughter did have them and she felt they were beneficial. I don’t think there’s anything to be lost by giving them a go. As an adult, my daughter has muscle spasms in her legs but regular massages keep these at bay and our local chiropractor has taught me how to deliver a leg massage to her myself.

Is there a limit to the number of times botox can be given?

I’m not sure. I just remember being told that it would have to be repeated regularly. My daughter was about 9 at the time and wasn’t keen at all. As an adult, she says she hasn’t regretted not having it. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong decision to be made. You could try it and see how it goes?
