Toddler off balance after fever

21 month old had a fever at the weekend, Covid swab negative, but struggled to control it with Calpol and Ibuprofen for 3 days (checked at ooh GP and kids' A&E on day 1). Now been fever free for 2 days and he's still got wonky balance despite climbing every bloody thing, is much more grumpy than normal and is both falling more and more bothered by falling.

Not tugging ears or anything at any point.

When do I take him to the GP? Is it normal to be off balance for so long after a presumably viral illness.

He's generally splatting to the left since I've been noticing it.

I wouldn't say his gait looks unusual for a toddler his age, but is unusual for him - he's been walking confidently since 13m..

Thanks!

Could he just be really tired after his illness? Either from broken sleep or just feeling wiped out by the illness itself? My DD always trips and stumbles LOADS when she is tired. Really clumsy and unstable. She is almost 4 now and can always tell when she is a bit down on sleep
Because she spends more time flat on her face or bum than on her feet!
Hope he feels back to his usual self soon xxx

His sleep is not much worse than usual, one crap night (out at A&E until 2am), couple of random wake ups. He is napping more than usual but that doesn't worry me as I'd expect that when recovering - it is just the balance (particularly as he's climbing everything he can get at) which makes me think he's got earache still.

GP sent us off to the children's hospital and they'd want him basically normal within a week in case anyone ends up googling this - I couldn't find anything relevant. Assuming a virus, Hand Foot and Mouth is a common suspect for causing odd effects but he doesn't have the characteristic rash for that.

Ask about post viral cerrebelitus. Causes unusual gait in children. A temporary thing but can be alarming.

Thanks. Assuming that's why they want him better by the weekend or further observations/investigations on Monday... Main thing I wanted was a when should post viral stuff resolve. He's still got a good viral rash going on!
