Every year after a heatwave our DS develops a dry persistent cough that would just start suddenly out of nowhere. He would start coughing non stop (with almost every breath) until we give him his blue inhaler after which it would subside and finally disappear. His oxygen level stays normal during coughing.
He has a nut allergy, allergic to dust mites and grass pollen. He was tested for asthma 2 weeks ago and doctor said he dose not have it. But after last weeks weather 34C here on Friday he woke up at night with this cough.
When DS was 3 he had an episode of laboured breathing which started at nursery again after a heatwave, he struggled until I picked him up and called an ambulance which confirmed his oxygen level was very low and we spent 2 nights in hospital on all sorts of steroids and were told he probably had an asthma attack but too young to be diagnosed.
GP has no clue as to what this dry cough may be but would not refer us anywhere as it happens one a year and we can manage it with an inhaler.
Anyone has an idea what might be wrong with him? I just want to understand what triggers these attacks and try to prevent them.
