Early signs of autism ? Nearly 1 year old

I have a nearly 1 year old boy who is very social and meeting most of his milestones (i think) but there is a few things he does/doesn't do that i am concerned about, and of course i googled

He is very social , smiles and laughs, answers to his name , respond when i say 'no' , makes good eye contact, crawling by 8 months, standing on his own now , not far from walking i would say.
He loves peak a boo ans respons well to it
He loves to play with toys, although usually he's more interested in the TV remote or my phone ! But he will sit there and play with me , he loves playing with balls , rolling them around etc, crawling all over the place with them
He says mama and dada , mostly dada, and often makes normal baby noise
He does not clap or wave , i have tried numerous times but he just won't copy me or do it himself, but he does copy me when i make a noise with my mouth and tap my mouth with my hand (he mimics the sound and action)

He isn't keen on being strapped in his pram and kicks up a fuss (we have now got one of them trike prams which he does love)

He often flaps his arm (usually when excited)

The main things I worried about it the no waving or clapping, and the arm flapping. According to Google these are all early signs of autism

Any adivde or similar experience would be appreciated please

Thank you

Our DD is one next week and has just the other day waved for the first time, no clapping yet. She flaps her arms around in excitement or to say no to things so all sounds like a similar level of development and I’m not worried at all. Honestly all sounds normal to me!

Flapping, esp in excitement, is not a sign of autism in a 1 year old, it is a normal developmental stage. It becomes a possible indicator later on as nt children grow out of it whilst autistic ones may not.

Likewise the milestone for waving/clapping is 18 months so it's too early to worry yet.

Why not leave it for 6 months and, if you are still worried at 18 months, you could try the MCHAT screening online which may help clarify if there is anything to be concerned about (dont try it now though as he's too young)?

As the other posters say, arm flapping is normal in baby's and toddlers! It's just their excitement.

9 times out of 10 children develop normally until 18 month - 2 years and then things change, that's why autism and other issues are not usually diagnosed until children are older.

Just enjoy your baby!

I’m afraid you will just have to wait and see. One of my children has ASD, wasn’t as obvious until age 3. We had lots of single word (and still do) language, lots of smiles, giggles, eye contact but it’s not that simple.

You sound overly anxious. Why on earth are you googling this when your only main concern is that he's not clapping or waving! Actually one of the key signs is a child that doesn't look when you point but even then I wouldn't worry right now. There is a reason Autism would never be diagnosed at such a young age. Given everything you've said please just enjoy your child and stop Googling for issues.

Like others have said just enjoy your baby and keep an eye on milestones. If they are indeed autistic you can't do anything to change that and it is too early to tell for sure. My dc is autistic and did clap (and waved for a week or two), but had a big regression around 15 months and lost a lot of skills. There were subtle signs earlier on though. Dc was diagnosed at 2.5, it was glaringly obvious by that time.
