5.5 year old has suddenly developed motor tic

Hi everyone,
I do have a GP appointment booked for the morning but I'm hoping to get your experiences please.

My 5.5 year old son has literally developed a motor tic, started staight after landing a high jump in a playground over the weekend, he stared shrugging/jutting his jaw out repeatedly and hasn't stopped since.

He has no history of ADHD, or ASD, no issues with anxiety or OCD - has been a happy, active 5 year old boy and this has all started like the flick of a switch. There don't seem to be any other tics, no vocal issues or anything else, it's just this constant jutting out his jaw/stretching his neck. It doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest, and he hasn't mentioned it at all to me since it started but it just looks so uncomfortable.

Obviously google tells me the worst - but has this happened to any of your kids and resolved itself on it's own? I am aware there are many many worse things to befall our kids but I really hope this isn't something he's going to have to deal with for the rest of his life.

Thanks a million.

How did he land? I would probably ring someone tonight or try and get seen for any new neurological symptoms. Did he hit his head or land with a jolt of his head/neck.

No nothing like that at all. He's always jumping off high things, he landed fine and just carried on! He didn't hurt himself or bang his head. It's more that it seemed to be the start of all this, rather than the cause of it, iykwim.

My ds has had a few tics during his years at primary school. He starts high school this year. I think they were caused by anxiety and went away when he was less anxious.

Thanks Traytray - I just don't think my son is anxious - I know we're living in strange times but he's just not that type of kid.

I hope your ds is doing well now!
