Is 7 a bit young to be starting on the road to puberty? Should I consult Doc I case it’s something other than BO? Advice would be appreciated if any mums have come across this in their sons. Many thanks.

My son in now 27 but I remember clearly having the same worry when he was 7. I called the doctor at the time to be told that yes puberty can start to kick in around that age. I was so surprised and a little sad that my first born was already having the first signs of growing up. But it yes this is usual.

Hi OP. I have a daughter but I noticed this in her at 7.5 and we did go to a doc. Turns out that some children can experience something called premature adrenarche, which is when the adrenal glands start pumping out weak hormones that can cause BO, and even a little underarm or pubic hair. It isnt true puberty until breast development in girls, or enlarging testicles in boys, which are caused by something unrelated to the adrenal glands. My daughter has early adrenarche and its actually a bit more common than you think, especially in tall kids and/or kids with darker skin/racial tones, which applied to my DD. You could take him to the GP but you might find this info reassuring as I certainly did.
