3 year old licking behaviour

Hi all

So my son is three next week.

Before lockdown I went into pre school and they said he has been seen licking the bookcase. They know I am in child development etc

Anyway didn't think anything of it too much, just something that was a one off but I've noticed it a couple more times and wondering if anyone else has been through it?? Or had their child do it? Was it just a weird behaviour or was it a underlying symptom of something?

Thanks

My son and daughter have both occasionally licked random things. I wouldn’t say it was that unusual for a 3 year old. Obviously if he still does it when he’s a little older or he does it a LOT it could be something to worry about. I’d just watch it for now. Unless there are other behaviours you’re worried about?

Thankyou, no there is nothing else I'm worried about. He's a typical three year old getting into trouble and exploring!

He needs grommets though and as a result his speech isn't great

Does he need the stimulation of different flavours in his diet? Could his food be a bit bland or samey?

I wouldn’t worry much as three is an exploratory age. 💐

Gosh my 3 year old has licked most things in the house!

I never thought i would say ' Stop licking the dishwasher!'

I always thought it was just exploring new things? I wouldn't worry about it

It's a sensory thing. It doesn't have mean anything. You'll just find yourself saying sentences you'll never thought you would say.
