Adult tooth growing in front of baby tooth

Does anyone have any experience of an adult tooth growing above and in front of a baby tooth? My child knocked their tooth when they were 3 and it died. It hasn't cause them any problems since then but now their adult tooth is coming through, it's erupted above and in front of the baby tooth. Will this affect the position of the adult tooth or is it nothing to worry about? I wouldn't usually ask on a forum but with the dentists currently being closed I'm hoping that someone will have experience with this.

It's called a shark tooth. Quite common in children. If the baby one is wobbly, then wobbling it can help it on its way. Sometimes, a dentist will give a deadline for the baby tooth to fall out naturally. Mine often says 'we'll give it 3 months to fall out, then we might extract it...' - the tooth had always fallen out before the deadline.

Both DS and I had this as children, but molars. Eventually the adult tooth pushed the baby tooth out with no ill effects.

I have something like this... I'm 35 and still have the baby tooth!

I’d you can help it with a bit of a pull it might come out. My daughter has had this with almost all her teeth so far. The bonus is she’s never really had a happy smile - there’s always a tooth behind, but she’s had to have two pulled by the dentist, and the last one managed to work it’s way almost horizontal before it finally came out. Pain in the neck (mouth?), but normal.

Both DCs had this. Dentist encouraged them to eat on that side and wobble it with tongue and both eventually came out once they realised dentist was serious about pulling it out if they didn’t wobble it out soon so finally started to do what they were told!

My son had this with his bottom teeth, he had 2 adult teeth growing behind the front 2.
They became wobbly and fell out normally and the adult teeth are now in the correct position.
Its quite common and nothing to worry about.

I'm glad to hear it's fairly common! I'll encourage them to wiggle it as much as they can.
