Pox Vaccine and Nursery

Hi,

Considering the chicken pox vaccine for DD 15 months old. Those that have taken DC of nursery age for it, did you tell the nursery that DC has just had the injection?

I'm still in my early research stages and not sure if DD will be a possible risk initially to others who haven't had pox as the injection is a live strain. I'm thinking the nursery should probably know as if one of the carers is pregnant it can be a threat I believe

Also, bit concerned it may initially raise DD's temp and with temp being taken on drop off she may get turned away?

TIA

Following as I'm thinking about getting it for my 16 month old before he goes back.

Out of interest, where do you intend to get yours done? It looks like Boots aren't doing then at the moment.

My son had the vaccine and didn't experience any raise in temperature from either dose. The practitioner who administered it said there was no need to stay off nursery or away from anyone as the risk of infecting anyone was so low.
However, it would be a good idea to inform nursery in any case, as they should be aware of your child's immunizations.
It's 100% worth getting in my opinion - a few months after the vaccine my son had prolonged close contact with another child who came down with chickenpox very shortly after and my son was absolutely fine.

whatswith have a look at travel vaccination clinics in your area, as they often do them

LudaMusser · 30/06/2020 07:01

Thanks

Boots and Superdrug are currently not offering the vaccine but Boots will in the next two weeks I've been told

I'm looking at using a local private health and travel clinic, £65 per injection. They have very good reviews and are listed on NHS.com

Google would probably find one in your area. HTH

Thanks @LudaMusser 👍

Just to update in case anyone else is reading, my GP recommended a private hospital near us. It's £95 per vaccine.

I had chicken pox aged 19 and it was hideous, no idea how I avoided it until then but I'd rather not risk it for my son of I don't have to.

Both of mine had it, no side effects. Childcare knew, but no need to take them off

Yurona · 02/07/2020 06:33

Just to add, a couple of months later my son was the only one still in - all other kids were off with chickenpox for 10 days or so

DS had it as my sister would be at high risk if exposed.

He was a bit off colour for a day after the second dose, in the current circumstances I’d try and get it done on a Friday he should be right by Monday.

I told nursery because his key worker is pregnant so he went in another room for 2 weeks.

ForeverBubblegum · 02/07/2020 08:16

I told DS's childminder, but just incase he was groggy (he wasn't) not form an infection point of view. They did say at the appointment that we should avoid anyone who is immune compromised (eg. Family members on chemo treatment).

Mine had it. Never mentioned.
