Growing too tall?

DD is 11 weeks old. I've just dressed her for the night in a size 6-9 month sleep suit as the 3-6 month ones were getting cramped in the legs/toes. This is consistent across several brands of clothing, not just something coming up small.

I know this is an imprecise measurement and on my very rough attempts to measure her myself she is approximately 65cm, which puts her somewhere around the 99th centile.

All health visitor appointments have been via phone and at her 8 week check the GP weighed but did not measure her.

DH and I are both tall, but not excessively so. I'm 5ft9 and he is a shade over 6ft. DS is around the 91st centile.

I know that charts are there to show the full range of expected heights, and she is not off the scale, but is this something that I should speak to the health visitor or GP about?

Sleep suits with feet in never fit either of my kids we used to cut the feet off (the sleep suit not the baby) it all depends on their proportion of body length to leg length it doesnt mean that they are overall too tall. If he is on the scale (even at the top of it) then he is fine.

She sorry.

My 99th centile baby boy is now a 6’3” 18 year old. She’s likely to be a tall one!

The body is also a snug fit length wise, but we do use cloth nappies so there is extra bulk there. Only the arms are too long and have to be folded back.

You are over-thinking. Some babies are longer than others, as some adults are taller than others. Don't worry about it. :-) It's not something a Health visitor would be concerned or even interested in.

Is this your first baby? Once you are able to be out and about and meeting up with other mums/babies you will observe a huge variety of big ones, small ones, fat ones, skinny ones, hairy ones, etc. :-)

Only the arms are too long and have to be folded back the amount of children's clothes that can only have been designed to fit alien children around me. Honestly do not use clothing to judge anything!

Bunnybigears · 28/06/2020 20:10

I dont know where the around me came from

She is my second child. DS has always been the tallest amongst his peers but DD is even taller. I have a picture of DS age 9 months in the sleep suit I've just put on DD. Admittedly, he was then growing out of it and it is a little long on DD, but it's not swamping her and she is not yet 3 months old.

Just cut the bottom of the foot bit off and let her little toes be wild and free xx

TwillfitandTattings · 28/06/2020 20:17

Your baby will be fine. DD1 was huge. 99th centipedes for height and fairly close to that for weight. Has always been in way bigger clothes than her age and is now 5ft 3” at just 11. Her dad and I are both 5ft 7” so not tall at all. Don’t watery about it. Chances are they’ve just got long legs and the proportions aren’t quite right in baby gro’s

blackpoe · 28/06/2020 20:19

I always had to cut the feet off sleep suits for both of mine. One is now below average height and the other is way above average.

WeAllHaveWings · 28/06/2020 20:23

If it is sleep suits from your ds they have probably shrunk a bit after a few washes. Ds was always a full size bigger than his age in sleep suits,.
