Circumcision scar

My 10 year old son had a circumcision 1.5 years ago due to severe phimosis. We had tried several attempts at steroid cream with no change things had become so tight that he was in pain. The procedure went well but the scar seems quite noticeable still. We’ve been back to the surgeon who said that can happen if a child’s skin heals too quickly but that it should become far less noticeable when he reaches puberty when his penis grows. I’m really hoping that will be the case as the scar tissue seems noticeable and I’m so worried it’ll affect him as he grows up. He is completely happy about it and not worried at all and I’ve not mentioned anything. I guess I’m hoping someone has gone through this experience with their son and had any advice/experience on what may happen when they reach puberty. Please no judgement on us going through with the procedure, i had three independent consultants check him over and they all said the same. I really wish we didn’t have to put him through it through 😢 I’d be so grateful to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar. Thank you

I wouldn't worry - everyone who is circ'ed ends up with a bit of scar tissue - It's not in my (wide limited) experience something either the owner or their partner gets concerned about.

I have 4 sons who were all circumcised. The first thing you need to know is that all males who are circumcised have a circumcision scar. The scar will always be visible as a ring around the circumference of the shaft to some extent, but varies from boy to boy, as well as what method was used to perform the circumcision will play the main roll in where the scar is located along the shaft, and how dominant it is or how blended in it is. If your son had a "Full" style circumcision where the entire foreskin was removed his scar will likely be farther down along the shaft from the head. As he reaches puberty and his penis grows the scar line will appear to be further down the shaft during erections. When flacid the scare line will appear closer to the head. This is all normal and you nor him has anything to worry about.

Hi my DS had the same surgery for same reason. I too worried over it but had no choice as son had repeated hospitalisation and retention of urine. He had confirmed bxo also. He also has visible scar as you describe. Good to read that it is normal from above posters

Hi, my DS is soon to have circumcision because of bxo that is causing phimosis, trouble urinating & pain, been told by 2 consultants there is no choice. I don’t know anyone who’s had it done so reaching out for any advice on healing times and life after please

it heals very quickly like the tissue on the inside of the mouth, first a bit of a white scar then eventually same skin color.
in newborns about 24 hours not long at all, during that time the procedure was to keep it moist with (massive gobs) vaseline and ensure clothing didn't stick/dry onto the area. if it does you tub soak and let the dried on item slip away without pulling.
this is old info, and there may be more modern views. both my son's were circumcised (as well as other family) and i nursed in a time when it was common practice.
once healed absolutely nothing needed.

as per fallfall but we used medicinal olive oil. It looked a bit grim for 24 hours but DSs didn't seem to be in pain, and after a few days it looked completely normal.
