Bloody mucus in baby poop?

Hi, just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this with their LO? Mine is 8 weeks old and I'm a bit worried. I called the HV but she said one occurrence is not uncommon and nothing to worry about. Is that right? She didn't seem confident with her advice. I'm waiting for LO to go again to see if it happens again. Her poop was normal other than the blood streaked mucus.

My friend had this with her similarly aged DC recently and the GP sent her straight to A&E. he was fine in the end (thought to be a dairy allergy) but would get it checked.

Thanks @Enterthedragons . I thought it might be a bit more serious. I just called my GP practice and a GP is going to call me today. I'll see what she says - hopefully it'll be fine too.

My DD has this when she was almost 1.

111 advised A&E, which we did. I took an offending nappy with me which I'm glad I did as a) they only seemed to take me seriously after they saw it and b) enabled them to take a sample.

Hers was caused by inflammation due to a tummy bug.

@McCaticusCat that's my concern...what treatment did they advise? I've taken a photo but if it happens again I will do what you did too Grin

How is your little one OP?

Sunsetred · 20/06/2020 14:53

Hi @FedUpOfChangingName she is fine nowSmilethankfully. Thanks for asking. It didn't happen again and my GP reassured us that it can happen occasionally. She explained that babies stomachs are very sensitive and the slightest thing can cause inflammation which results in the bloody mucus. A bit like when your nose bleeds a little. If it continued to happen then it could have been milk allergy.
