2 year old LUMP back of knee help 😞 Pic attached

LegLumpWorrier · 11/06/2020 21:23

I’m really not able to chill out after finding a lump on the back of my 2 year olds leg.
It’s only noticeable when leg is straight.
Doesn’t hurt.
Isn’t red etc
Feels soft.
No idea how long it’s been there but I can’t believe I didn’t notice until standing under bright lights before bath time.
Il go to the doctors tomorrow if they’ll see us .
Google (yes I KNOW) throws up soft tissue cancers.
The only other thing it shows is bakers cysts.
But it says they are incredibly rare in children under 4 , more likely are cancers.

My anxiety is through the roof.

Any experience?

Is it soft ? Most likely a lipoma ?

LegLumpWorrier · 12/06/2020 10:14

It’s a bit squishy but doesn’t move and feels bumpy. Doctor won’t see us due to pandemic and is assuming cyst. But without feeling it how can she know for sure?

I was just coming on to say bakers cyst, I have one and sometimes it bursts and my leg swells up, was diagnosed through ultrasound as they were worried it could have been a dvt due to the swelling.

If you are really very worried and gp won’t see you I’d go to walk in centre or a and e, most are almost empty at present.
Is he otherwise well?

LegLumpWorrier · 12/06/2020 10:27

He is otherwise well but I am overthinking now and wondering if his sweaty head at night etc should have been mentioned and if waking at night is due to potty training or not.
Just feel of it wasn’t for corona they would have seen us for sure. Do you mind telling me how yours feels? I cant feel edges on this it’s squishy but not totally smooth or round

It is probably nothing to worry about but surely your doctor can't refuse to see you if you're really worried. I'd insist on being seen even if you piss them off. Do they have a nurse practitioner at your GP practice? They are sometimes easier to get appointments with.

LegLumpWorrier · 12/06/2020 10:43

The doctor said for everyone’s safety , if I I sit on an appointment, she will only look from 2metre distance . So doesn’t believe us going in would make a difference. But surely a lump needs examining, with touch.

What the hell?

Remind her it is safe as long as you all wear masks and she washes her hands immediately. She should not be treating you like this.

Plancina · 12/06/2020 10:52

It looks like a bakers cyst - my DP has one exactly like that

makingmiracles · 12/06/2020 11:04

Mine feels fairly firm when I straighten the leg but squishy when I bend the leg

cansu · 17/06/2020 07:00

I am utterly amazed that she won't examine it. I would ring again and ask to speak to practice manager.

NiceTwin · 17/06/2020 07:04

My dd had one at three years old.
Looked exactly like that and was squishy to touch.

Unlike you, I didn't Google. After the scan, the doctor said, well it's not cancer and I was Shock it never crossed my mind.

It took some years for it to go, they said it would disappear as she grew and that's what happened.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 17/06/2020 07:09

Sorry nothing helpful to add but I am also shocked that your gp won’t see your 2 year old.
I saw a dr in April as I had a lump in my breast that I was worried about. She actually took her gloves off to examine me properly. So what your gp is saying is complete madness, lumps definitely need examining. I’d speak to the practice manager as poster above suggested. I hope it’s nothing to worry about though

AnyFucker · 17/06/2020 07:14

It could be swollen popliteal lymph nodes

Does the child have similar swellings in the armpit or neck ? Has he had any infections in the last few weeks...sore throat, earache, cough etc ? Is he otherwise lively, eating and drinking well ?

alphabetannie · 17/06/2020 07:20

Doctor here- complain to practise manager, that is unacceptable for them to refuse to review that imo

FourCandelabras · 17/06/2020 08:04

I agree with PP - you must push to be seen. GPs are able to see patients if needed, they will wear a mask and gloves. Don’t be fobbed off! Sorry that they’re making it difficult for you.

FourCandelabras · 17/06/2020 08:05

To clarify, I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, but it is always worth checking these things out if you’re at all concerned.

Lordamighty · 17/06/2020 08:10

I’m shocked that a GP is refusing to see a 2 year old with a lump in their leg. You will need to complain & insist on being seen.

ThickFast · 17/06/2020 08:12

Can you get dermoid cysts there?

LegLumpWorrier · 17/06/2020 18:59

Thank you for replies . There is no other lumps I can find but does have cold symptoms and sore throat today; cold sweats through the night. Could it really be a lymph nOde?
@alphabetannie thank you, I think I will get him seen tomorrow if I can push for it. Can you tell me if bakers cysts are common diagnosis for a toddler?? From reading online it seems to say it’s 4years and above that get them . He did complain of a sore leg on waking the other day - and held the back of knee. Would this be normal with a baker cyst? Appreciate your response thank you

DS was 6 when I noticed a similar lump. The GP said Bakers cyst was rare, because of his age, but possible. He referred him for an ultrasound, and it was a cyst. It disappeared for a while after months, but I noticed it is back again recently.

LegLumpWorrier · 17/06/2020 19:27

Thank you @browneyesblue

AnyFucker · 17/06/2020 20:48

Please get him seen, op. The night sweats and limb pain are a little worrying. Best to get him checked out.

NiceTwin · 18/06/2020 09:33

@LegLumpWorrier my dd had a Baker's cyst at 3, just about to turn 4.
The paediatric doctor said that she had damaged the knee capsule, causing the synovial fluid to leak, causing the swelling.

It is believed the injury was caused when on a trampoline.

Hope you get to see the GP today and it ends up as something and nothing.

Nobodysdiary · 18/06/2020 09:39

Has the gp seen the lump in an online video appointment?

My dd has a lump on her back and I googled it and panicked. The dr assessed it online and said she needs a blood test but to leave it for a couple of months due to the risks of going to the hospital. He reassured me it wasn’t the condition I thought it was.
