Worried about reaction after vaccines

Hoping someone can offer me something that will help put my mind at ease!

DD had her 1 year vaccines on Monday, all seemed fine beforehand however after the vaccines she's fallen really poorly and after being seen in A&E have been told she has a chest infection.

She has crackles on her chest, her heart rate and breathing is fast and she has a super high temp as well as a questionable rash Hmm but the doctor seemed to think it was fine.

I'm thinking she probably had this infection prior to having her vaccines (she had a bit of a cough but the nurse seemed to think it was fine) so I'm looking for some reassurance (hopefully) that she's going to be okay as I know it's not safe for them to have the vaccines while poorly!

Really stressed as some are live vaccines and she seems to have reacted really badly to having them with a chest infection Sad

Also going to attach a picture of her rash if anyone can offer any insight on what it might be. I'm going to be calling the GP tomorrow for a second opinion on what it may be as it doesn't fade when pressed with a glass. The doctor in A&E thought it was her hair follicles but I'm not so sure about that.

I would probably be going back to a&e on the basis of the rash alone tbh. So sorry she's poorly. It's just awful. Definitely take her so you can get the reassurance you need and she can get checked.

I'd go back too.

LegLumpWorrier · 11/06/2020 21:26

Was it Mmr

Flossie44 · 13/06/2020 10:26

What a worry. Did you go back OP?
I hope she’s now on the mend x

merrygorround · 13/06/2020 14:03

@LegLumpWorrier Yes the MMR vaccine was one of the ones she was given.

@Flossie44 Thank you Smile We went back and had an overnight stay on an IV drip. Awful to see her like that but we're home now with a course of antibiotics and she seems to be on the mend thankfully!

Ok I asked because my child and my brothers child both had a measles type non blanching rash in the 24 hours after mmr. They denied it was anything to do with the vaccines but I believe it was. It caused a temp, but rash faded after a few days . Looks exactly as my childs did

merrygorround · 14/06/2020 01:21

@LegLumpWorrier Thats interesting.
I did ask whether it was to do with the vaccines but they said no chance! I took their word for it but now you've said that I'm not so sure! Hmm

Probably a viral rash.

Ds used to get them with any infection of any sort at that age. Number of times we sat in A&E for a blood test/lumbar puncture with a non fading rash. Some of them looked just like your dd's. Some of them had bigger patches, 1" across or more. The most interesting one was more blue and came out so quickly you could actually watch them coming out. It started at the top of his head and worked downwards. He looked like someone had drawn blue marks all over him in a regular pattern.

I would be pretty certain that the chest infection was unrelated to the jabs. The only thing could be that it brought her immune system down, and so when she caught it, she had less resistance to fight it off, but even that isn't really a reaction to the vaccine.

A rash otoh was one of the measles vaccine side effects, but it didn't look like that when one of mine had it. It's much more blotchy and less defined.

Witchend · 14/06/2020 10:39

Oh, and I think the rash is 10-14 days after the mmr, so too soon as well.

merrygorround · 14/06/2020 14:19

@Witchend Sounds like you've had your fair share of experiences with scary rashes! Glad they turned out to be nothing too serious.
Yes you're right they think it's a viral rash. Didn't half scare the life out of me though!
