Hello everyone I am looking for some advice and reassurance I guess. I've just been playing with my toddler and i see what looks like two holes in his top molars. I am devastated. My question is will dentists be able to help us at the moment? My worry is I don't want them to get worse and cause pain. He's so little. I feel so guilty and just so sad.

@Greybearskip it depends on the size and position of the hole

Sometimes in children if the hole is 'self cleansing' you dont fill it straight away as you can arrest decay - by keeping it clean and the use of flouride. This means you stop the decay progressing, and the base of the hole hardens. The hole will still be there but its no longer active decay.

If the decay is only into enamel you do as above and hope to stop progession of the decay. Decay into enamel doesnt need filling

It will be difficult to do a filling on a 2 yr old, and really depends on compliance. Your unlikely to be able to use a drill for example. Its not the end of the world if the hole gets bigger as this can make it easier to fill, and so less likely to be traumatic to the child. This is obviously dependent on the likelihood of the child experiencing pain, although toothache in children isnt quite the same as adult toothache.
