Hello all,

Yesterday I noticed that my toddler has got a severe overbite, when you look at his side profile you can see his chin is much further back than it should be, also when he gives me a kiss, his top lip curls and his bottom lip goes missing (like when you pull a fish face) , his top lip is much bigger than the bottom.

Cut a long story short I decided to look in his mouth , I told him to close his teeth together and to my horror the bottom teeth were half way further back than the top. I looked online at overbites and it looks as if it's a severe overbite.

He only had a dummy for the first 6months of life so I don't think it's that, I think he was born this way as when he came out (born) his lips looked squished and he's always had a "missing" chin I just feel silly as I didn't put two and two together.

He struggles drinking as it just dribbles down and out of his mouth. He does have a dentist appointment in September, will they be the people who deal with this?

Does anyone have a child with this problem and can it be sorted out ?

Thank you for listening.

The dentist is probably the best person to talk to and they'll monitor it. He's still got a lot of growing to do yet. My ds had an overbite that was picked up by the dentist at a very young age. She kept an eye on it and referred him to an orthodontist but not until he was about 11, and they waited until he was around 13 to actually start treatment.

I'm sure I've read that all babies have tiny chins because it helps with feeding but I might be wrong about that. Though I'm yet to see a single baby with a strong jawline 😂
