Hay-fever - blocked nose.... Help!

My DD who is 9 always suffers with hay-fever, but last Friday was a particularly bad day which resulted in her eyes being almost swollen shut and her nose completely blocked.

Over this week her eyes have improved a huge amount but her nose hasn't unblocked at all. She is getting really distressed by this as she can't breathe at all through her nose. She is blowing it all day long (and so now her nose is super sore too) but there is no improvement at all. She takes Loratadine every morning and eye drops when she needs them.

I'm going to take her to the chemist in the morning and see what they suggest, but in the meantime does anyone have a wonder cure????? Many thanks

I’ve been using this buteyko breathing method which I’m finding helpful. There’s a nose clearing technique described in the book.
You breathe out, hold your nose and rock your head back and forth. It sounds bonkers and it feels like it isn’t going to work for a few minutes but then it does. It has other breathing exercises in it too.

There’s an audio version on audible if you prefer that.

My ds was prescribed a steroid nasal spray this week. His whole face started to swell on Monday it was so bad.

He gets nosebleeds too when he sneezes so much, so doubly unpleasant.

Thanks both. I'll see if I can get her to do the breathing exercise and will see what the chemist says about the steroid spray. Fingers crossed something works.

I've just posted on another similar thread. My DD has bad hay fever. The things which help -

Windows shut all day
Bedding changed regularly
Always shower and wash hair before bed (so not rolling in pollen overnight)
Beconase nasal spray - we find antihistamines of limited help. But keep using the beconase regularly really helps
