Chronic stomach ache in 8yo

DD has complained of stomach ache and feeling sick, on and off for years. She occasionally gets very violent bouts of hiccups (to the point of nearly being sick) but we can't work out what triggers them. She has been tested for coeliac (came back negative), we've tried lactose free (no improvement) and we've had a paediatric appointment, which concluded it was likely to be anxiety and stomach migraines.
It has been particularly bad for the past few weeks, to the point of not wanting to leave the house because her tummy aches (although i don't know if that's sometimes an excuse for getting out of things she doesn't want to do). Her bowel movements are explosive and very stinky (sorry, tmi).
It could be a bug I suppose but I'm assuming there's not much more the doctor can do? Any suggestions for what to try?

Hi OP,

My DSD's tummy is very problematic and makes some very bizarre noises! She got tested to see if she has a gluten intolerance, it came back negative, but her DM has made her gluten free. She thinks that it has made a massive difference. We aren't too sure but we don't see her for extended periods of time, so hard for us to judge. It might be worth giving it a go. My DSD is also 8 xx

DS2 spent the first half of term of Y1 complaining of stomach ache, to the extent that he was often holding the sick bowl! Turned out to be dehydration.

Have you heard of FODMAPs? They are attributed to IBS. It could be worth doing some research and trying to cut down on some of these foods to see if there's an improvement.

I'm back, got distracted with work and tea time.
Thanks for the suggestions. Gluten was going to the next thing we cut out, so I will give it a go. I have IBS so have come across FODMAP but have never managed to stick to it but good idea to take a look, I can maybe cut out any high FODMAP foods DD is eating lots of to see if it makes a difference.

Hope your DS was ok Champagne, it's easy for them to forget to drink enough.

He's fine now, partly thanks to a brilliant teacher. We know to keep an eye on him. Fingers crossed for you.

My DD has had bouts of this since age was 3 or 4, and it got worse around the age of 7. She's 9 now and doctors have been crap about it tbh. All they suggested was to try cutting out different foods and stimuli. So through a process of elimination I've found that she's definitely not great with milk and eggs, fizzy drinks are bad too, but ice cream is fine. And if she's very anxious she gets really bad tummy ache.

Thanks Crowcat.

I think we have a long journey ahead of us.
