DD10 being sick every 14-21 days

DD was sick last night at 1am and has been sick for the last few weeks at intervals of about 14-21 days. She's not running a temperature and seems fine during the day but in the middle of the night suddenly vomits and then feels fine by the next morning. She's been eating well and it's not the same meal each time though it did seem to be happening every time she had a bath at night so that's been stopped but last night she didn't have a bath but was still sick.

When the doctors opens I will be giving them a call to see if any appointments available.

Could it be hormonal? I sometimes get sick with my period.

Thecatisboss · 02/06/2020 08:07

I have been wondering that as she's started showing some signs of puberty - growing hair but no periods yet. I used to get awful periods with crippling pain so hope She's not you g to be the same as me.

She's quite a worried personality and all the stresses of the last few months have impacted on her too.

Strange question , but could it be constipation?

Thecatisboss · 02/06/2020 08:18

Not strange question at all! We've asked her that and she says she has been going fine.

Does her tummy feel sore, if you just feel gently on it ? It seems strange that there is a pattern to it ? Is there anything you do around the times ,or eat ?

Thecatisboss · 02/06/2020 09:31

Just tried pressing and she says it doesn't hurt at all. I've been trying to remember what she ate at the times yesterdays tea was wholemeal pasta, tuna and peas followed by an icecream, time before macaroni cheese with peas and before that baked beans on 50\50 bread and a mini chocolate bar. I have been wondering about a cold intolerance so that's why I remember what she's been eating! But she's had all those foods and not been ill inbetween as well. It's very strange.

Coeliac disease?
Might be worth asking for some bloods to be taken to rule this out.
Can cause vomiting in children and also presents as anxiety due to the brain gut axis.

AvocaLove · 02/06/2020 10:03

Very weird! My DD was similar for a few months when she was around that age!

She would vomit in the middle of the night or early hours of morning, then wake up properly at normal time and feel completely fine. Sometimes it was just one night, other times it would happen 2-3 days in a row. Always fine during the day. Then nothing for several weeks and then the same thing again. It went on for a few months and then stopped. Only once did it happen outside of night time - we were out for dinner and she suddenly went white and hot and I have to get her to leave. She wasn’t actually sick that night, just felt nauseous, but an hour later she felt fine.

We investigated a number of things including diabetes as this can be a symptom. Everything came back clear, but we concluded that it likely was a combination of low blood pressure (which she does have and began to be symptomatic with at around age 9) and low blood sugar. She’s almost 13 now and occasionally still gets random bouts of nausea, always connected to other symptoms of low BP.

@OnlyToWin I am worried it could be something like that. Anxiety is very common in my DH's side of the family too.

@AvocaLove that's interesting. DD has woken up bouncy, hungry and full of energy (unlike her parents!)

I've got a telephone doctor appointment this afternoon as well.

Just been speaking to my mil who said her periods started at 11 and DD is 10 and a half I was hoping she would start around 13 when I did so it could be that too.

Keep her diet the same - don’t eliminate anything until you get tests done or you could end up with a false negative.

Thanks for all replies.

Been to GP today. Not quite sure but think it may be silent reflux as DD suffered from reflux as a baby badly so trying gaviscon initially then blood tests for coeliac etc. If that doesn't work.

My DD does that. She has something called cyclical vomiting syndrome.
Her triggers are being overtired and eating acidic food too close to bedtime - oranges, tomatoes etc.

BumbleeBeesFluffyBum · 04/06/2020 22:22

Could it be an abdominal migraine? DS now 12went through a phase of being sick circa once a month with no clear indications why. This was the closest we came to explaining it. Not experienced it in about three years now.

candle18 · 05/06/2020 00:00

My son had cyclical vomiting syndrome from around age 8 till16. He would be sick anything from every 2 weeks to every few months but always the same pattern. He would wake around 6 or 7 am, be sick for a few hours, fall asleep then be fine again.

Houseplantmad · 05/06/2020 00:17

Does she have a pet she's handling? My son was sick every fortnight for several months until we realised a pet he was handling was passing on the bug. Once we got him gloves for when handling it the sickness cleared up.
