Broken big toe

My daughter fractured her big toe last week, it was a couple of days before it was confirmed in A&E yesterday. She hasn't been given a cast or boot, and only a single crutch. The doctor told her she needs to walk with her foot flat (despite the pain), but it's literally agony for her. As a result, she's hobbling about on the side of her foot and I'm sure it's going to cause problems. Her foot looks a bit discolored (besides the actual bruising) and feels a bit cold, like her circulation is poor. She says it feels numb and tingly.
Is it normal not to get a cast for a big toe - or at least 2 crutches? I'm worried she's going to do more damage by walking around on the side of her foot.

I broke my big toe over a year ago and got given this awful wedged boot. I couldn’t walk in it as I had a newborn so got around by walking around on the side of my foot like your DD. As a result it’s not healed properly and now I can’t bend it if I knock it at all it’s agony 😬
How old is your daughter ? I thought some kind of support boot would be necessary To ensure walking correctly - a cast is not necessary nor is strapping the toe.

I break toes all the time I've never been given a boot for it? Is that normal for a big toe it's the one ive never actually broken

Just to add keep it up as much as possible and elevated. Mind didn’t mend because I literally couldn’t rest
Wish her better 💐

@slipperywhensparticus

Yes it’s only the big toe you need to go to drs for and maybe even get physio/surgery for depending on the break

Other small toes can get strapped to the one next to it for support

She's 12... and finds it impossible to be still, hence the hobbling around on the side of her foot. I'm going to call the GP tomorrow. I know it's fine to leave the other toes to heal on their own but I thought the big one would need supporting in some way. Or if she could at least have crutches...
