Tonsillitis in toddlers

My two year old has been very unwell since last night with a high temperature and generally unwell. We took him to a&e this morning after becoming very concerned and after checks they sent him away saying he had tonsillitis and to take paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly.

The pain relief temporarily drops his temperature but he just seems so unwell. Anyone else had experience with their toddlers having tonsillitis?

DD1 had was like this at the same age and for a few years. She was so unwell every time, off nursery or school for a week, couldn't eat, high temperatures, it was awful. She just survived in paracetamol, nurofen and ice lollies. Good news is she did seem to grow out of it and is now virtually never sick.
She did get referred to ENT but by the time the appointment came she was getting it less frequently so they didn't want to take her tonsils out.

Both mine have had tonsillitis and I was plagued with it as a child. Have you been given antibiotics? I've never had a diagnosis without antibiotics, although the official NHS advice is that it will go away on it's own after a few days.

I would recommend making a note on your phone of the date just in case this should become recurring.

Thank you for the replies, I was surprised at just how ill he was but he seems much brighter today and temperature has dropped. I will definitely keep a note of the date though.
