4yo with high temperature

Sure this must have been done again and again but my daughter has come down with a high temperature / shivers this afternoon. No other symptoms.

We live fairly rurally and only been to supermarket ever now and then but obviously worried!

Her temp is around 37.5 at the mo but our thermo runs low. It's one of those contactless ones.

I'm just worried. What else could it be?

Children get Temps for all sorts of reasons, give her some calpol and keep an eye on her. I wouldn’t worry too much

inwood · 15/05/2020 22:27

37.5 isn't worrying on its own, where are you taking it?

MrsPatrickDempsey · 15/05/2020 22:30

How is she in herself? Fevers are the body's natural reaction to fight infection so let it take its course. If she is in pain or feels poorly give paracetamol or ibuprofen. Treat the child, not the fever

imamearcat · 15/05/2020 23:57

We've given calpol. She def has a fever I think my thermo always says lower.

I agree with MrsPatrickDempsey. Id only treat a temperature over 38 . Why dont you get a new thermometer. Your guess will not be accurate.

JustStayHome · 16/05/2020 03:34

37.5 really isn't a temperature at all

imamearcat · 16/05/2020 11:21

I guess like the NHS says if the feel hot to touch etc. You just know. Anyway she's same today, no other symptoms just quiet.

Im just worried it's CV! Hopefully not.

How are things today? My ds has come down with the same - high temp, shivery but no other symptoms at all. We've literally hardly been anywhere and been extra careful about social distancing. Whether it's CV or not I just have no idea where he's got this from.

Sunshinegirl82 · 17/05/2020 21:13

I think at the moment I’d actually be more inclined to get some medical input for a temp mainly because whilst I might normally put it down to a virus, given how little dc are being exposed to at the moment I’d be more worried about a UTI/ear infection/tonsillitis etc that might need antibiotics?

Quartz2208 · 17/05/2020 21:14

Yes it could be many other things how is she today

CarlottaValdez · 17/05/2020 21:15

My DS has a temp of 38.2 this evening (he’s 5). Like OP I just can’t think how he can have picked anything up. He’s asleep at the moment and breathing normally and seems peaceful.

buenavistabelle · 17/05/2020 21:49

@Sunshinegirl82 I think you're right and that actually worries me slightly more than if it were something viral. I will see how he is tomorrow and call the GP OR 111.

Sunshinegirl82 · 17/05/2020 22:02

My DS always gets temps with an ear infection (he has a glue ear so he’s a bit prone to them). Our GP are being really good at the moment and doing lots of phone appointments etc. If temp still up tomorrow I’d probably give them a call to be on the safe side.

buenavistabelle · 19/05/2020 13:53

How is everyone's temp today? I spoke to GP this morning who seemed as stumped as me. He didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about but said we should all self isolate anyway.
