Sons eye

My Son is nearly six and for the last few weeks I have noticed he keeps wetting his finger and rubbing his eye-He says it feels dry and a bit itchy.
The inner corner of his eye is slightly red but there is no other sign of anything wrong-no crustiness etc,no redness(apart from the corner)
He is up to date with his sight tests.
I am wondering if anyone knows what it could be?
Thanks

It could be a pollen allergy, or his eyes could be dry. My son had something similar and he got some drops from the chemist. I would phone the GP. Do his eyes look dry?

Can I have a picture please, preferably with his eye straight and then one with the eye going outwards.

If it's still red post a photo tomorrow.

pinksoda35 · 17/05/2020 20:34

Hi I have just this minute been trying to get a photo and it doesn't show anything-will try with a better light in the day tomorrow-Thank you so much for taking the time to reply..
It really is just slightly red in the corner and if it wasn't for the fact he is constantly sticking his finger in there we would not think anything was wrong.
Bought some optrex eye spray for itchy dry eyes so using that at the moment-there would be no way he would let me use any drops/cream

I would say allergic reaction from what he's said and the eye looks a bit "glassy" looking. Hard to say for certain without a bit more magnification.

Can he see ok out of that eye? Does it hurt? Sensitive to light? Worse at any particular time or outside?

pinksoda35 · 18/05/2020 20:17

Not sensitive to light, and doesn't seem to bother him when outside(too busy playing/looking around etc)
He says it hurts, but more in a itchy way..I suppose the spray will help/work?
If no better in a week may nip him to the GP( though kinda feel like we shouldn't be going anymore which is silly)

If it's hay fever, an antihistamine tablet should sort it.

Some opticians are still open for eye problems, they'll be more help than the GP for eye issues (no offense to gps, but opticians study eyes for longer and normally have more gear to check eyes than gps)

underneaththeash · 19/05/2020 21:56

Yes, you need to see GP. It looks like there is a small white area in the outside of the cornea - it may just be a photographic art if at, but I can see it on all the photos. Or optometrist - and there are quite a few open for emergencies.

@pinksoda35 did you ever get to the bottom of this? My son is complaining of the same. He says the corner of his eye hurts a bit (always worst at night) and one eye slightly red in the corner. He is also up to fate with eye tests.

pinksoda35 · 08/07/2024 12:43

So sorry that I never replied @Aklein38 ..only just realised.
We took son to optician and told them everything..they did a good check on his eye but said nothing wrong.
Son continued to bother with his eye for a but afterwards so was considering asking for another appointment etc, then he stopped.
He's ten now and does not seem to have any problems.
