Is this a high, arched palate? (Pics)

Just wondering if anyone could advise me as to whether my daughter has a high palate please, or if it looks usual? I'm trying to figure out some issues with feeding and just wondering if this may be the culprit.

Thanks!

Yes it looks high from the picture, my ds has a very narrow mouth with a high palette, ds never had feeding issues. What problems is she having?

Hi, thanks for responding! She makes a lot of clicking noises when she feeds and at times latch can still be painful l/ misshapen, if it's not 100% perfect.
Is your son talking age? Has it caused him any issues?

:)

I think so yes, my ex-husbands was similar but bigger obviously as he was in his 30’s

My ds has just turned 19 and had no issues with speech, he was bottle fed, he had no feeding problems but not sure if it would cause problems with breast feeding.

My son has a very high palate but he also had very pronounced tongue tie which was causing feeding issues until it was treated. He's on solids now and can bottle feed fine but if he's eaten biscuits or something, we have to make sure there aren't any remnants stuck in the high arch. A few times, he's gone for a nap and started choking & it's been food trapped there. He's only 8 months so hopefully it'll be less of an issue when he has teeth and can chew properly. Previously to getting the tongue tie treated, he couldn't latch to a bottle and made a clicking sound & would gulp down air so then cried a lot from all the air he was gulping. Has she been checked for tongue tie? Our son's was picked up when he was a few weeks old after we'd had to syringe feed him which was getting unsustainable as he couldn't latch to anything.

@NK346f2849X127d8bca260 that's good
To know re speech, thank you!

@polkadotraindrops she hasn't been, no. When she was given her once over in hospital it wasn't picked up, but I know that first check can be slightly unreliable. Unfortunately since lockdown is in place
I haven't looked into getting a second opinion re TT. She latches well 80% of the time, but I can't stop the clicking.

Certainly looks like one :) it's quite possible to have a high arch palate with no issues. If bubs is clicking I'd potentially look at ties perhaps? I have 2 kids with high arched palate but they also have micrognathia so my 2.5 year old boys speech has been affected (he has Pierre robin sequence) but I know others who have no issues with speech at all

Hey, I wanted to comment because my daughter's looks exactly like this. It seems to be a high arches palate. She is exclusively breastfed and does better breastfeeding than with a bottle. She does click at times, pretty often actually, and has a shallow latch. She and I have worked on the latch to where is isn't painful to me and she doesn't choke. With a 'good' latch she chokes and can't drink. We are doing ok with it, so good luck to you!
