5 year old had random tachycardia episode-has this happened to anyone else’s kids?

Hi on Monday my 5year old had two random episodes of tachycardia where his heart was 200bpm. I thought he was gunna pass out cuz he went pale and clammy the first time but was absolutely fine when the second episode happened a few hours later. The hospital have done ecg’s had him on a monitor over night and done his bloods and found nothing! I am waiting on an appointment for him to have an echo and test him for SVT but am having full on melt down at home. I’m scared every time he gets active or upset I’m terrified it will happen again! He had ectopic heart beats when I was pregnant and I had a really difficult pregnancy and thought I would loose him, but ever since I’ve had him I’ve always had this horrible gut feeling that something is seriously wrong and that I’m gunna loose him and don’t know if it’s anxiety or if I should listen too that instinct. I’m sorry it’s a long one I have been having panic attacks in my sleep because of all this and would love to hear from anyone who may have been through something similar? Thanks in advance

This happened to my son when he was a similar age. He was running and said his heart felt funny and when I took his pulse it was very very fast (probably also around 200bpm). After a few minutes it seemed to settle down although felt quite fast for the rest of the day. For some reason I didn’t take him to A/E at the time which I regretted but phoned the GP and he got an ecg. They weren’t sure if there was something showing up on it or not so he was referred to a paediatric cardiologist. She did another ecg, listened to his heart etc and said everything seemed fine. He didn’t get any other tests and thankfully so far it’s never happened again (he’s 11 now.). I think they can rule out a lot of serious arrhythmia on an ecg and most forms of svt aren’t serious although very scary. I know what you mean about feeling panicked though, I was always really anxious when he was doing any exercise (still am a bit) but the cardiologist said to him it was really good for his heart to run about. Was he active when it happened?

Hi l, thank you so much for your reply. It’s so good to hear I’m not the only mum to deal with this. The first time was at 2pm in the afternoon and he was playing on his slider out back and the second time was around 7pm the same day but he was sat down. He looked pale and clamp the first time but so far all tests have come back normal and when it was happening I asked him if he felt short of breath or dizzy or if he had any pain and he said he felt fine. It’s just such a worry as I had a bad pregnancy with him due to him having ectopic heart beats and a leaky valve which all miraculously corrected itself once he was born. I think maybe I am a bit traumatised by the pregnancy and it has always caused me to doubt things and watch him more closely. Perhaps I’m looking into it too much if you know what I mean. I’m glad to hear your son is healthy and nothing came of it xx
