Can anyone help me identify if this is chicken pox?

DD1 aged 5, woke up this morning scratching at her chest. When I had a look, she had a rash that resembles chicken pox. She has clusters of spots across her chest, belly, back and shoulder, and since then has some on her face and neck.

However, she had chicken pox about three years ago. And also, we're on lockdown and havent left the house in a month so have no idea how she would have caught it? Last time she caught it from me when I had shingles. She didnt have it mildly and was quite poorly with a fever, headache, aches and pains and was off her food for a good week or so. DD2 (aged 2, hasnt had it before) is currently not showing any symptoms or spots.

I've attached the clearest photo I can get of the spots. It doesnt look like an allergy or heat rash, and doesnt appear to be bites or hives either. She was playing in the garden yesterday (as she does either day) but was bathed before bed (with her usual bath products) and slept in freshly washed bed sheets (washed with usual detergent). She didnt eat or drink anything that she wouldn't normally. She was rebathed this morning and I put calamine lotion on her. Spots haven't faded and more have appeared. She has no other symptoms.

Our GP was closed over Easter monday and tuesday, so their telephone lines have been so busy today playing catch up that I haven't been able to get through to see if I can send the pictures. She isnt unwell otherwise to justify taking anymore serious action, it's just the itchy spots.

If anyone can shed some light on it for me I'd really appreciate it!

It does look like it - weird though if you haven't been out for a month

Does look like chicken pox to me. But after it would be hard to catch without seeing anyone, or if you've had it before. Could something have bitten her? Eg ants in the garden, midges, mosquitos or fleas from a pet? I'd keep trying the GP if they don't clear up by tomorrow

We do have a dog but hes up to date on his flea and worming treatments and isnt scratching himself but I'll give him a good check over to see just in case. Bites seem to be the only logical answer but they just dont look like bites. Theres no broken skin or puncture marks or anything. Im going to keep trying GP and keep a good eye on her. If it is chicken pox I have no idea how she could have got it, it's just been the 4 of us at home because I'm high risk and shielding, and everything has been either delivered to the house or relatives dropping things off in the garden, and DH has been off work for over 2 weeks now Confused

You say DH has been off work for 2 weeks - I thought there was around a 21 day incubation period. You can get Chicken Pox more than once but it's not very often. I would contact your GP to confirm even if you have a skype consultation.

Confuddledtown · 15/04/2020 13:13

Yes, me and the girls have been home for 4 weeks, then DH finished work 2 weeks ago. Can he be a carrier for it if hes had it before and is immune do you think? Still trying with GP but not having any luck

The incubation period for chicken pox is just a few days I think. Can't see how she could have caught that whilst isolating. Kids are usually a bit feverish with it too. So if she's otherwise well it's more likely bites. If you have any child antihistamine at home you could give her some to see if that helps them.

Thats what has me confused to - the lack of other symptoms and the fact theres no way she could have caught it, but at the same time it looks glaringly like it. Good idea, I'll try her on some piritin, thank you!
