Gps and urine samples at the moment

long story but after finally getting an appt through about night time wetting I spoke to a lovely nurse who gave lots of info about possible causes etc etc. Appts cancelled as you can imagine for now so we have to fill out a 4 day diary to see how much is going in and coming out if that makes sense.
She also said it would be good to get a urine test done. I was fine with that but am now getting worried about gonig to the gp to collect a pot to do this. Right now ds has been dry, apart from one night, since the lockdown. I think he is drinking a lot more water during the day so wondering if this is the case.

What would you do? Is it safe to collect from the gp or would you put it off for now as this is not essentially urgent. I need advice....

My dd used to suffer from UTI's. I bought the same strips the doctor uses from amazon and work well. I would buy a pack and use those first of all and if leukocytes, nitrates or blood show in sample then take one in as they will need to send to the lab to see if anything grows in sample. She may also need antibiotics if this is the case.

I've attached a picture, they're easy to use and less than £10.

Of course they might be wanting to test for other things as well but this may be a good place to start.

Would you feel ok going to collect things from a gp right now? Am so worried about just going there to collect a pot right now.

I did a sample into a clean jam jar ( sterilised with boiling water ) and just decanted it at drs . So just one trip not two . I got my results back this morning they showed I need a different antibiotic so needed to go and pick that up .
I know you are about children’s health but thought this info might help .

Just use a clean sterilised pot for now. If it was necessary I'd feel ok about going to gp's. But wouldn't just go for a routine test if I didn't feel it was urgent.

How old is your ds?

annaSab · 14/04/2020 11:46

He is 10 so they want to rule out anything else. Has been on a off for a few years but never constant but recently a few times a week which is causing him a lot of worry as nearly 11 and was due to go on a Yr6 trip. But now since schools are off it has only happened once which is a huge change. But obviously don't want to risk missing out on anything else that might be wrong. Fit and healthy to look at so who knows.

My DS was still bed wetting at 8.

After trying lots of things I bought a bed wetting alarm from ERIC and followed their advice. They told me it might take 3 cycles of using the alarm before it worked and that a cycle is 12 weeks!

It worked like a dream after 2 1/2 weeks. Extremely loud. Terrified the whole house. Cured the bed wetting.

Please don't collect in a home sterilized container, it still may contaminate the sample and it needs to be in a red cap anyway for microbiology testing anyway.
