Would they send me to hospital?

My daughter is 4 and had a few wheeze attacks last year. She had one a couple of weeks ago and I used the last of one of her inhalers and it helped and it went away. Now there's hardly any inhaler left and she's coughing again. I'm assuming it's a bit of hayfever again and I want to get a new inhaler but for obvious reasons I'm guessing I can't just make an appointment to see gp will I have to take her to hospital via ambulance? Anyone been able to phone doc and get prescription without child being seen? She's never had it on repeat prescription as it's only happened a few times. I could be jumping the gun as her cough might be gone by morning but just worried about having to go to hospital like that just to get an inhaler. Also I'm a single mother and I have 2 children. Can I take my other child as clearly I can't drop her off at a relative's.

You may be able to have a video call consultation.

Dangermouse80 · 04/04/2020 23:03

Telephone appointment with GP.

Soontobe60 · 04/04/2020 23:09

Don’t take her to hospital for an inhaler! Just phone the GP and they will most likely give her a prescription.

Smurf123 · 04/04/2020 23:15

Your gp will prob prescribe one over the phone. If you think it is hayfever have you given her prition? You can buy it in tesco etc without a script.

Via ambulance.....seriously, really?!

justasking111 · 04/04/2020 23:22

GP for prescription, hayfever meds too.

PlonkyPlink · 04/04/2020 23:25

Call 111 and speak to a GP.

FenellaMaxwell · 04/04/2020 23:28

Call the GP, they can send a prescription to the nearest pharmacy

zombiepara · 04/04/2020 23:31

Either speak to a GP on a telephone call tomorrow (or nurse practitioner), or call 111 and get a prescription that way.

Don't go to hospital, via ambulance (assuming they would in fact take you for that particular reason - i wouldnt) just for an inhaler.

Different if she is really struggling, but if you want an ambulance to just get an inhaler... get realistic.
Ambulances are overstretched normally, let alone at a crisis time like this.

If you are adamant you want it from a hospital, get in your car and drive her there yourself.
And if you have no car, then get in a bloomin taxi and go.

Hmm

Both 111 and your local out of ours GP can prescribe something and tell you where you can collect it at any time of day. Do not call an ambulance for this. Is there enough there to last the night if she needs it?

Reversiblesequinsforadults · 04/04/2020 23:35

Call the GP unless she really can't breathe. GP is much better than an ambulance!!!!

Custardcreamies101 · 04/04/2020 23:39

Call the gp surgery for a telephone appointment

lyssie29 · 05/04/2020 09:14

Wow ppl chill I read that if the symptoms match coronavirus that the only way you can go to the hospital is via ambulance. They wouldn't know until they tested her if it was that or not. If she has a runny nose and problems breathing and a cough the symptoms match covid-19. I was just trying to avoid that situation. Thank you to everyone else though I didn't realise they would allow telephone consultations for a 4 year old as in the past when I phoned they gave me emergency appointments to see gp.

I also meant if couldn't get an inhaler and it got worse for her having to go to the hospital. Many children who have attacks need to go on a nebuliser and stay in hospital even when they have an inhaler.

Ring and ask for an inhalor prescription I have done that in the past even before this

Torvean · 06/04/2020 01:38

Call your GP and ask to speak to the duty doctor.( or if you have a named Dr ask for him/her) The receptionist might ask for a short explanation of the problem. The Dr will call back and then if needed they will send a prescription to the best chemist for you.

Ps The earlier you call the better.
