Dry & cracked hands - 3 year old

With all the hand washing at the moment my 3 year old is getting dry & cracked skin across her knuckles. We've got Childs Farm & Aveeno moisturisers but she won't let me put either on as she says they sting. I've been putting Sudocrem on but it doesn't seem to be making it any better. Anyone have any other suggestions?
I feel awful as although now we're at home all the time & not washing quite so much, the damage seems to have already been done.

Vaseline?

Or E45 or diprobase creams are good and shouldn't sting.

You can get oilatum and E45 for the bath, which might help if she'll put her hands in. Could put some in a tub of water and do water play and hopefully help her hands too!

Thanks! She won't let me near her with Vaseline ' it's too sticky!'
We used to have oilatum but it's been tricky to get hold of lately, I'll keep a look out though. Will get some e45 too.

Cetraben cream is really good and suitable for children over 1 year. You can get it on Amazon.

Do you have any Nivea? It doesn't sting. Then put it on when she's asleep. Good luck!

nivea blue pot is quite gentle.
doesn't sting and is not sticky after it has sunk in.

NuffSaidSam · 28/03/2020 19:56

Hahaha to be fair to her, Vaseline is pretty gross!

You could try moisturising them while she's asleep, either with cream or Vaseline. If you think she'll sleep through it you can even really smear it on and put socks on her hands so it soaks in overnight!

My DD has this last week, I used Working Hands cream and it cleared up really quickly. She had been washing and sanitising constantly at school and her hands were raw.

MowzersAsleep · 28/03/2020 19:58

Tell her to dab her hands with a towel and not rub them, the friction on their soft skin will make it so much worse.

My DDs are red raw after school (rough paper towels)

Over the weekend at home they calm down.

I put Childs Farm on them when she's asleep.

Zeroderm xx

Moo goo balm is amazing and doesn't sting and isn't greasy. There kids soap is fantastic too for not stripping the oil from their hands.

Actually everything they do is amazing. I've had an itchy scalp for about a year, tried absolutely everything, cost me a fortune in prescriptions and expensive shampoo and conditioner and their shampoo, conditioner and scalp balm has almost cleared it up in a couple of days.

whatkindoffuckery · 28/03/2020 20:02

Is she drying them thoroughly after each wash? If they are left damp after towel drying the air drying will lead to, or exacerbate, soreness.

BinkySodPlop · 28/03/2020 20:02

If you have any O'Keefe's Working Hands, slather it on, then put cotton gloves or socks over, at bedtime. It's not greasy and really works. Of you have any flexitol heel stuff, this also works, but may sting a bit.

What about a little bit of olive oil or coconut oil, shouldn't sting and will have a nicer texture than sticky vaseline.
