Itchy Bottom? Help

Pugsley87 · 24/03/2020 21:38

All advice gratefully received!

My 4yr old is complaining of an itchy bottom. It's been so bad this bedtime it's taken over and hour to settle him which is unheard of. I've looked (boke) and can't see worms which was a first thought?

He has scratched his buttocks nearly raw so clearly is in massive discomfort. He also keeps saying he needs to poo and when he goes either doesn't or does a small one (unusual).

He eats loads of fruit and veg so constipation feels unlikely? Delightfully we are all on day 8 of self isolation so I'm loathe to contact GP but equally can't go to pharmacist.

Answers on a postcard please!

I would treat you all for worms anyway. Normally ovex which comes in liquid and tablet form

Mc2020 · 24/03/2020 21:42

Definitely could still be worms, you can’t always see the horrible little buggers. Treat all members of the household with Ovex, boil wash all bedding, towels, tea towels etc with each use and before he goes to bed smear Vaseline around his bottom, apparently that stops them from moving around as much!

Tyrannosaurusdrip · 24/03/2020 21:51

Is he constipated? Sometimes my little one gets a proper itchy bum if she's a bit bunged up. I put a bit of sudocrem on which helps the itch. Lots of veg, fruit and water helps the constipation (teaching you to suck eggs there!)

Toybox88 · 24/03/2020 21:52

Classic worms. Get the medicine into him as early as possible tomorrow. You can easily get it over the counter and it's cheap. No reason not to. If he wakes again with it put vaseline or sudocreme to give temporary relief but he needs the medicine.

playthestation · 24/03/2020 21:55

Worms.

Pugsley87 · 24/03/2020 21:55

@dementedpixie Thanks. Don't suppose you know whether Ovex is over the counter?

@Tyrannosaurusdrip Sudocreme is a good shout.

Think there's a plan here! Lots of water, even more fruit and veg, and Ovex (plus boil EVERYTHING)

Yes you can buy ovex over the counter

Littlebelina · 24/03/2020 21:58

Boots, superdrug and chemist direct all sell ovex online but delivery times are delayed at moment so could be at a week. Why are you self isolating? The symptomatic person only has to isolated 7 days for onset (the 14 days is for folks who live in same house but aren't symptomatic yet). If it's you or another adult they could pop out.

If not maybe ask a (good) friend to pick some up

Neighneigh · 24/03/2020 22:06

Get two packets of ovex because you need to take it again after two weeks.

Pugsley87 · 24/03/2020 22:06

@Littlebelina it's my 1yr old who is symptomatic, so my husband, son and I self isolating for 14days. I looked into online, but like you said, delays. Oh well, this is what best mates are for Grin

Also cut their nails as short as you can.

terriblyangryattimes · 24/03/2020 22:16

And keep pants on under PJs to stop them spreading as far. Irritating but way easier to get rid of than nits!

Pugsley87 · 25/03/2020 21:36

Update: First round of Ovex administered with second dose ready in 2wks time. Following all the advice... and it's a good job.., because I've seen the feckers now 🤢

Took the dose about 11am... it will work soon.... Right?!?!

OP posts:
SweepTheHalls · 25/03/2020 21:42

It will! Treat everyone, wear pants in bed. Shower everyone every morning and hoover well!

Pugsley87 · 25/03/2020 21:45

@SweepTheHalls yep, all treated. I swear we are clean, but everything has been boil washed (people included), hoovered and anti-bac'd... and repeat!

Usual pretty quick fix, should get a good night sleep.

dementedpixie · 25/03/2020 21:59

It takes a few days for it to work as it starves them of the sugars they need to survive

dementedpixie · 25/03/2020 22:00

Did you all take a dose?

Sewingbea · 25/03/2020 22:09

Over works really well. Or so people say...
