My DS is 18mo. He still only has three teeth which we brush twice a day, he only drinks milk and water and has a healthy diet. He only drinks from a free-flow cup and never took a bottle to bed. But despite following all this I've realised today that he has a build up of what looks like plaque on his two bottom front teeth at the gum line. I tried to brush it off but it wouldn't come off. I debated trying to scrape it off with my fingernail but didn't want to hurt his gums.

I'm so upset, I'm worried this is going to affect his adult teeth and I feel like a terrible Mum. I just don't understand where I've gone wrong Sad

It may be a wee bit of calculus which is hardened plaque, common in this area as the salivary glands open on to these teeth. Please don't worry won't do any harm to second teeth. Your dentist may pick it off at next check up but probably just leave it, all will be ok Grin

I'm worried he won't even open his mouth for the dentist. He hasn't so far.

By the time we are allowed to have dental checkups again he will be at least three if not six months older may be more inclined to open up!

Sorry for depressing everyone....!

Oh god, I didn't even think of that! I can't even take him to the dentist Sad

There really is no rush on it x

Asterisktheknackered will it not affect his gums or anything like that? I'm probably overreacting but I suffer from Anxiety, which mostly manifests as worrying about the health of my DC and as you can imagine, the current situation isn't helping!

I know it's a tough time with a wee one. It's really nothing to worry about just keep brushing those wee teeth all be fine x
