Migraine in children

DS (9) came home from school on Tuesday with what appeared to be a migraine- one sided headache which progressed to nausea and vomiting.

After some paracetamol & ibuprofen and a nap he was right as rain.

He's just been sent home from school with the same thing again.

Does anyone have any experience with migraines in children?

I wasn't expecting to see another one so soon.

I know this isn't very exciting, but a hopeful bump for anyone with experience

I know this is really boring compared to coronavirus panic. But has no one any experience of migraines in children? I'd like to know if others experiences are similar, what kind of triggers people have. If he's had 2 this week is he likely to continue to have them frequently or might they go away again? Is this a puberty thing?

I think the coronavirus is causing bad headaches. Not to worry you at all but potentially this?

I've been told by doctor I may have the virus and have been suffering with a terrible headache for over a week.

My daughter who is 15 has migraines and hers started around when she was 10. She usually takes some ibuprofen and tries to sleep and that mostly sorts it out. I pick her up at school because of it about 4-5 times a year. I don't think she ever had as many as two a week.
One trigger is stress, but she also doesn't drink enough, she is getting better with that though.
I certainly think that migraines can be triggered by hormones, most of mine are following my cycle. I wouldn't be surprised if hormonal changes in boys could trigger them.

Thanks for the replies.

DS had classic migraine symptoms; one sided headache progressing to nausea and vomiting and then pretty much fine after some paracetamol and a sleep. We spoke to the GP who confirmed it did sound like migraine.

He's had no other CV symptoms so I really doubt it's that.

He's still asleep at the moment, which is probably good.

Hopefully now he's off school indefinitely he'll be less anxious (has a tendency to anxiety) and it'll settle again.

I have come across this being caused by teeth grinding in children, fixed by some kind of bite guard, which I realise is probably not much help right now. However that does suggest it could be related to misaligned/ re-arranging new teeth, and/ or stress. However, I do think there are plenty of other causes of migraine too, including hormones.

Thanks @candycane222, I'll add that to the list of possibilities to look out for.

I'm going to print a migraine diary from the migraine trust today and hopefully just doing that will mean he doesn't have another!

DS started with migraines aged 11 (summer before starting secondary school). He often didn't get pain but instead super sensitive smell, nausea, profuse vomiting and then shuts down, feels better but groggy when he wakes up and takes a good 24 hours to properly come to.

His and my triggers include:
Perfume
Air fresheners
Petrol
Paint
Smoke
Wood smoke
Not enough sleep
Getting too hungry
Vapeing (kids vape on his bus)
Stress/anxiety

Poor thing, they're awful to suffer from but wise to see DC's suffering
