Hand gel rash what to put on it

My dd has what can only be described as what looks like a burn after frequently having to use hand gel at primary school.
Any ideas as to what I can put on it? I've used everything I can think of and she's crying saying it hurts.

We've used e45 aloe Vera Vaseline various dry skin moisturiser. I'm beginning to think her hands just need a break from hand gel to heal. Over the weekend we didn't use any hand gel only washed hands as didn't need to go out but even the hand soap is hurting her now.

Firstly, I've been using aveeno and neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream on me and the dc. They are by far the best two "sore" extra dry skin remedies I've found.

Secondly, question school as to why they are using so much hand sanitizer as its only recommended for use when soap and water aren't available. Surely they have it at school?

unfragranced child's farm has helped my dd. I've told her to only use sanitiser if there's no way to wash hands. We don't use it at home (just wash hands).

Thanks we tried the neutrogeena cream but not aveeno. Even child's farm is stinging although need to check if it's the fragranced one. Thanks

Poor thing Flowers Is she ‘scrubbing’ at/harshly rubbing her hands with a towel or paper to dry them? I’ve been blotting mine after making them really sore the first few days of intensive washing. Has made a big difference, no broken skin now just dryness which is ok with normal moisturiser.

ooglybear · 16/03/2020 18:00

Thanks @PurplePonderer I've no doubt she is, she's 6 and giving the hands a rather vigorous wash after all this talk of the 'foo virus' as she calls it Blush
At home we pay them dry but I think it's those awful green paper towels at school that you can only really scratch with them at the best of times.

My hands get really sore from using hand sanitising gel too. Even using a lot of harsh soaps is causing dermatitis at the moment. I'm putting Aveeno skin relief of O'Keefs working hands cream on them to help.
Would it be possible to send your DD in with a small hand towel to dry her hands on? As it would be far kinder to her poor hands.

ooglybear · 16/03/2020 18:39

Thanks I think I will try to get some milder soap and see if she can use in school as well. I said to the teacher tonight not to use hand gel anymore and dd will have to leave where ever she is and wash her hands.

Her skin is broken and bleeding slightly which has to be less hygienic right now. I will try ask about the towel but I'm wondering if that would be allowed. Good idea though and will definitely ask.

As the skin is broken, the hand gel will be so painful for a child to use. I can't see the school having a problem with her washing hands instead.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/03/2020 19:05

My hands are really sore ,I bought some unscented O'Keefes cream today and it's soothing it already.

n00bMaster69 · 16/03/2020 19:27

Hand gels and most soaps make my fingers crack and bleed, I refuse to use them.
Dove soap is the best for my hands.

Go to a pharmacist and see what they recommend.

Rugbymumof2 · 16/03/2020 21:12

Look for a paraffin based cream rather than anything water based, my DD came home with very red blotchy hands at the end of last week and a few days of using the Norwegian hand cream has really helped.

Also reminder her to rinse well after using soap, most kids tend to still have residue after washing their hands in general so ensuring its all removed will make a difference.

Howzaboutye · 16/03/2020 21:22

Olive oil, or sunflower oil!
I know it sounds mad. But a few drops soak in really well. It will help heal her hands quicker. Rub it in for overnight healing

ooglybear · 16/03/2020 22:32

Thanks so much for the replies it's very hard to watch how much pain she's been in.
The Norwegian cream is what I've been using and I really like it but it's also hurting her unfortunately.
I am off to try the olive oil right now thanks and will try to get hold of the unscented O'Keefes cream tomorrow. Can anyone tell me where's best to get it?

If she skin is cracked and painful then you really should ask a pharmacist for advice, don't be putting on random creams that could cause further issues, I actually can't believe that you are using a cream on her knowing that it hurts her.

Redwinestillfine · 16/03/2020 23:27

Another vote for aveeno

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/03/2020 23:29

When you've put cream on, send her to bed with socks on her hands. It'll help it soak in, and stop her scratching them.

HindsightIs2020 · 16/03/2020 23:29

You can get okeeffes from boots or amazon

Humina · 16/03/2020 23:30

Aveeno or Atrixo Green pot/tube work for my son. They don't sting him. Poor thing was in so much pain.

RB68 · 16/03/2020 23:32

we use Palmers COcoa Butter Formula - intensive relief its spec for itchy and irritates and severely dry skin prone to eczema

motortroll · 16/03/2020 23:33

I use baseline when everything else stings. Just not too much! Especially effective over night.
